Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Yojimbo the Last Toon San to Arrive …

Thanks “BMW” for the nice pics …

She also says the case looks like this …

2 Referee Pitty
Dr Mater mask down
Cho
Dragon Mcqueen with Oil Stains
Komodo
Big Fan
Kaa Reesu
Manji
Stripped Kabuto
2 UFM Mator with oil cans
Dr. Alshlepp Wagen
5 Kojimbo

Here he is from the short – looks like Tabinu is correct in RED …

And like Yojimbo above, the packaging guy does not seem to have searched very hard for the right screenshot …

And presumably Yojimbo is named as a tribute to Akira Kurasawa’s Yojimbo … and the main character’s hair style …

You can read more about this classic film at Wikipedia.

It inspired Sergio Leone to make an equally great film, A Fistful of Dollars.

And while I’m generally a fan of Bruce Willis, you can safety skip his remake version called Last Man Standing.

A yojimbo is a Japanese word for a warrior like a Samurai who was hired for security or other “common” work. The spoiler on the Cars Yojimbo does sorta evoke the choumage (hair knot) of a samurai warrior, but I don’t see how it’s inclusion in Tokyo Mater is an obvious homage to the Kurosawa film, it’s cinematic influence notwithstanding.

  • Man-I-Fold says:

Wow, so the head piece on the Yojimbo Car kind of has the same shape as the actor’s hair style, so this is an homage to Yojimbo’s name AND likeness? Thanks for the pic, BMW! and the cool post Met! and the good times all…. Happy New Year T5ers!

I really need to know how to get an Avatar. Any help?

  • Rob says:

Is the case content 100% accurate?

    • BMW says:

I wrote the contents down when I opened the case at midnight at TRU. The only question is whether the two toon Dr. Maters in the case was Dr Mater with Mask Up or down. It was pretty late at night.

All the rest of the contents are completely accurate. Its case W. I took the box for storage.

      Do you see a discrepancy?

    • slicepie says:

Something is definitely off with the assortment. I can’t remember the exact contents of the one I got but I know for sure there was only one Mator with Oil Cans. I specifically remember because I was debating on buying it and ended up putting it back.

      • BMW says:

The case I opened had 2 Mator with oil cans for sure.

The TRU store that had these new cases, about 5 were put out on the 23rd, is out of them as of yesterday. All but a few toons were sold.

BTW, Target reset completed today. Its Confirmed that there is no longer space on the shelves for the Team Crew Sets. Team hauler sets are there.
The 9 packs look to be a regular shelf item.

This post is great and kind of creepy at the same time!! I was talking to my best buddy from college yesterday and he was telling me that his 2 year old son has finally discovered the importance of CARS in the universe!L 😆

Anyway, I was sharing with him all the details about the coolest and newest cars that he should be keeping an eye out for, and when I brought up Yojimbo he got very excited! He was a film major in college and he schooled me on the Yojimbo name & its place in history. This led him into a very long monologue about other movie/film references he remembered from Pixar work and the Cars Toon Shorts DVD, which Santa Cars brought them this year! It was a great convo! 🙂

I told him he needed to start keeping tabs on Take 5 for the newest and hottest info in the Cars world!!

(MET: Only with CARS can you have intellectual conversions with PhD’s and 2-year olds 🙂 ).

  • BMW says:

Yojimbo, had no idea. Met this is a great post, thanks for the links and education on a great Japanese film.

  • I-am-speed says:

Isn’t that John Belushi at the Samurai Delicatessen? 🙂
