Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: The Price is Wrong, *****
At a nearby Target, they have decided the recession is over, no more value pricing for you …
Of course, that’s a bargain from what John in MO found …
Though in 2008, this was the price at Rite Aid …
But I’ll see you $6.49 and raise you …
John in MO again … it’s like some bizarre curse, where-ever John goes, prices go up!
I’m guessing they simply add 100% to what their distributor sells it to them for … I’d pay $6.97 for the POP Standee …
But DanversMABlowhard has the flush (not really royal) …
PRACTICALLY sold out!
I like how the shelf tag says YOU PAY.
(Or YOU get arrested for shoplifting – how friendly)
YOU PAY! YOU PAY!
YOU-WE CERTAINLY DO.
Was there another part of the tag that read – “We could charge you less but we decided you must pay $7.99.”
Or was this at a North Korea friendship store – Americans, YOU PAY $7.99!
And should that tag actually read –
COLD
or BURRNNNNNNNN!!!
Though on the other hand, Target is selling a Thomas-gauge wood I-Screamer for $1 …
Just glue a Bugle chip to the top – no one will notice.
BTW, if your kid asks what the asterisks at headline stand for – it’s a placeholder for the word TODAY. 🙂 At least, I’m pretty sure but it’s all hazy before the alligator ate my hand.
Or, if you are watching it on TV with all the edits:
“The price is wrong…BOB”
It took me until the alligator line, but I got it, and I laughed out loud! Thank you, Met, for the laugh!
Be glad you’re in the USA. Over here in Europe, stores charge up to €7,99 (EIGHT EUROS!!) for Toon singles. Haulers are €23!
Yup.. prices are expensive in other stores… I will and please note… will buy them where ever I can find Chase pieces since it is cheaper than buying them on ebay. Kohl’s has been my #1 spot to buy them… recent finds, Chuy, Mater w/Lamp, Fillmore w/gas cans, Ransburg DJ, etc 😀 Bit pricey but cheaper overall 😀
Saw the $1 Target ice-cream truck a few days ago (right as you walk in)! And just after seeing the $8.50 wooden “Cars.” The truck wasn’t as nice, but nicer than less-than-one-eighth as nice…
Well, I think my Toys-R-Us can top most of these comments. For a long time now all the haulers are $24.99 which comes to about $27 with taxes! And people wonder why I don’t collect haulers!!!
Thanks for the Bob Barker/Happy Gilmore reference Met. It totally made my day!
Yeah it took me a sec then I got the reference good stuff. Maybe it is time for another Happy Gilmore viewing.
That 7.99 tag is from CVS… always has higher prices on the toy section… don’t think that CVS has had a huge sell though… typically CVS regular stock items have limits on stock… usually 3 pieces or so… maybe 4 or 5… sometimes just enough to fill a peg, sometimes just enough to be in stock but not overstocked. Sell one, get one… I have been to their distribution centers. Almost all the items in the store are shipped individually, not in cases (unless we overrode the order to get in a full case)
Still, 7.99 seems excessively high… maintaining margin is one thing… this seems like an error in logic to have it so high…
CVS near me has had the same 3 Cars for awhile now.
same Cars here…when it says YOU PAY they are trying to make you think that they are doing a favor for that price…
YOU PAY ONLY…
CVS toy section is the place where divorced parents go to buy toys at the least minute; the toy section for the desparate and uninformed.
crazy stuff
this is definitely crazy.
Our empty lenticular pegs were rollback 3.47 NOW they are full and 3.97.
Same toon prices as before but the mega octain gains for 6.97 have been removed from their 3 pegs and the price tags removed.
The sadest haulers are no longer 10.97 we haven’t seen more than mood springs in 6 months but yesterday full shelf of mostly gil, 3 nitroade and 4 mack but NOW its 14.97. I’ve never seen the hauler at that price ever.
Sad they raise prices just to lower after Christmas.
The interesting one is walgreens always 4.49 a car still 4.49 a car eventhough now they have moving eye cars. Beall’s always 5.99 still that eventhough its toon cars there now instead of moving eye cars.
I often wonder why retailers raise prices on items that don’t sell at the lower prices and then wonder why they don’t sell at the higher prices… We need the right items to purchase at the right price… when the Mater’s Tall Tales 4 packs went from $19.99 to $29.99, I went from buying 2 of each for myself to no more than 1 of each… With more plastic and less metal in the diecasts, shouldn’t they actually cost less? Exclusives are also bad for the customer – less competition means higher prices… and when demand for an item increases, so does the price… it does seem as if they are taking advantage of John in Missouri though…
We’ll see how well things like the Target Speedway 9 pack sell back at the $39.99 price since they didn’t really fly off the shelves at $19.99… and the 2 Walmart stores I’ve been in since Black Friday both had over 300 of the 4 packs in stock and have kept the price at $10.
Right selection + right price = increased sales, happier collectors, happy children, and happier retailers.
Just an FYI, my local target in NY has so many 9 packs that they actually lowered the price to $29.99 instead of $39.99. I still passed on these with the black friday price since we only need 2 cars out of the nine. Ill wait on a clearance price or if they are released as final laps.
Yesterday my TARGET had a big sign “NO ON SALE” over the Black Friday 7 Car Set… With no price so I tool one and scaned the price… WOW! $39.99 REALY GREAT SALE PRICE…. all 200 on 5 shelves
what the!?!?!? Canada got the same yesterday I found the small and large Toons were at a whoppin’ $8.99 plus tax…
mmmmm …. neeeeeeeed to find some Bugles!!!! 😆
Nice I-screamer; I lol’d as soon as I scrolled down.
Wow, 5.99 is the price paid without sales here in Canada and sometimes i’ve even seen 6.99, so what is going to happen here next, north of the border?
Dr. Evil says “$1,000,000.00.”(pinky to lip)
