12:13 LIVE – WORKING
Click on banner or ad on right. Still says COMING SOON on right but click on PRE-ORDER ITEM.
ALSO NOTE – The pop menu MIGHT SAY it’s NOT available – close that popup window and click on PRE-ORDER ITEM.
10:27 In a parallel universe, people have already gotten their shipment …
Hey, I saw you move! Yea, you – I can see you through the webcam. I sent code to disable your red light but turn on your camera …
/dim/LO/on
By, the way, that’s our goal here at TakeFive … keep your eye and hand on the monitor – whoever can hold it the longest wins HUGE …
(“Huge” will be defined by my lawyer tomorrow at 4 AM).
Kmart.com will win a retail web award for keeping people glued to their web site – not easy to get people to stick around on a shopping site for 3 hours solid π
10:18 I blacked out – did I miss anything? Guess not.
9:18 I should be okay – my Noah’s Bagel is almost ready.
9:07 AM OFFICIAL UPDATE FROM KMART.COM
“Weβre working through a slight site bug right now, and should have the pre-sale available for ordering shortly. Β Iβll send you a note confirm when itβs live.”
8:51 AM
I AM STARTING TO GET HUNGRY … I could use also a shower … help, I’m being held prisoner by Kmart.com …
Top Ten Excuses:
10) We’re using Ticketmaster technology.
09) Our servers are in Iceland and the wind shifted.
08) Oh, is that today?
07) I had some Starbucks coupons and wouldn’t you know it, 731 people at the data center wanted a half-caf, double hazelenut decaf frappacino.
06) Oh, is that today?
05) I can never get that GMT and CMT time thing straight.
04) It says starts at 10:00 CT, it is starting, isn’t it? What more do you want?
03) It’s not easy swapping out Dale Jr’s with lenticular RPM’s from sealed cases.
02) Ha! It worked, got those lazy ***** up on the West Coast.
01) Hacking payback from Int’l CARS fans.
Without going over and I should note that when my hand reaches in there, I probably will not pull out gold bullion – you have been warned. π
Who wants to guess when it will go live? You will win something from my giant velvet grab bag of CARS and gold bullion.
8:22 AM – Not Live Yet …
LIVE BLOGGING …
Well, at 8:14 AM (Pacific), not really live yet …
And yes, the description is from last time …
If these are truly sold out for pre-order, it does not surprise me! My local KMarts still have Cars from KMart 3 pegged. For a promotional item the inventory “pegged” around for too long. From my personal observation and the entries on this site, the event for KMart 3 was a total bust from the viewpoint of the retailer. Too much money was tied up for too long in excess inventory. I suspect the actual number of cases for the in person event will be drastically reduced. There were five people, including three from one family, at my KMart last time around. On the other hand, there were over thirty five collectors/buyers at the last Hot Wheel event with hardly a car left on the table. Within a week whatever Hot Wheel had been left was sold off the aisle pegs. Except for Dale, there’s nothing new! I expect the interest will be with Dale and Transberry Juice, leaving the rest on the table in quantity.
No offense Steve, but comparing Hot Wheels to Cars is like apples and oranges. Hot Wheels are a 40+ year old brand compared to a barely 4-year-old Cars brand. Not to mention Hot Wheels are 25% of the price of Cars as well. I think Kmart Day #4 will have a major crossover of Hot Wheels and NASCAR fans to get their hands on Dale Jr., which I think was evident yesterday in the “quick” sellout.
No offense taken, but, the collector base for Hot Wheels is much broader than Cars. The participants at the Hot Wheels events run the age range of single digit to old guys (and gals). I have never noticed many Nascar fans at the Hot Wheel events. Most of the Nascar collectors I see are into detailed replicas of the actual race cars, and, not 1:55 scale cartoonish characters. Of course, there are some exceptions that will want anything alluding to Dale. With the past releases of Dale the only persons I noticed buying Dale in quantity were hoarders and scalpers on the belief there was future money to be made. The rest of the race cars are no where near Nascar replicas.
I mentioned before on this site poor sales activity, whether due to retailer poor stock rotation or ordering, results in decreased ordering in the future. Once burned on a promotional item the retailer will remember. The only single pack Cars line anywhere near equilibrium of supply and demand is the Final Lap line. The pegs are awash in current and old packaging lenticulars. The price point is decreasing. Retail stores do not order stock to constantly have inventory reduction sales. If Mattel is offering reduced wholesale prices to the big boxes or rebates to stimulate sales, Mattel will not hedge bets in the future. I think KMart was burned badly on KMart 3, and, the decreased wholesale ordering. KMart and every other retailer knows exactly how many Cars were sold on KMart 3 day and any subsequent day- thanks to Hal the computer terminal. I expect the case allocation to the event to be significantly less than KMart 3. If it is not, KMart will be burned again with languishing inventory. The retailer makes money turning inventory quickly.
As to price differential with Hot Wheels. Yes, three or four Hot Wheels v one Car. No contest Hot Wheels will win every time. If you’ve been down the action figure aisle lately, you’ll notice a $1 reduction in the retail price of Hasbro action figures. An action figure is still 2X to 3X more expensive than a Car and 7X to 8X more expensive than Hot Wheels. Still, there is a progression in the development of a child’s interest. The vast majority of the kids will progress from Cars to Hot Wheels. There will always be hardcore collectors of the Cars line until it dies a toy death.
My bet for June 12th at my KMart will be five customers, three from the same family. But there will NOT be 18 cases of Cars. Check back on June 12th in the afternoon.
Boy, that was loquacious!
PS: The latest retail toy disaster is Iron Man. Every store around here is swimming in unsold endcaps and aisle displays, and, it’s two weeks after the movie debut.
Regarding NASCAR, I just meant that Dale fans will swarm Kmart that day to pick up his Car.
I wonder if Iron Man 2 will prove to be the Speed Racer of 2010!
here come the CUBBIES!
Maybe THEY should sign LeBron…
couldn’t hurt
So glad I did not waste one second on this today! Well, other than readin this post, ha!
I missed out, I had to go to go on with my life.
(MET: I will do a follow up tomorrow noon-ish after double checking on the status).
Is it dead? I was on early this morning til JUST SHORT of 12:10 PST…have been out of the house until now…
Very lame as I will be out of town on June 12th. Arghhh
still works here.
looks like it is done. I can add to my cart, but my cart says –
Collectors Event 24 Pack
Sears Item # 004W013906360001 Mfr.model # T2096
Temporarily Unavailable
Release Date: 06/12/10
Based on my experience, the system started processing orders at approx 1:45 pm Central π
thats when my order went through too.
I received the email from Kmart at 2:08 CDT that the problem was fixed.
My email inbox time stamped it at 3:08 Eastern time.
I’m still waiting for “Rebecca R” at Kmart.com Live Chat to email me that the presale is ready to go…
Got my order in!
Wow! Showing up at K-Mart at 11:00 and fighting off the crowds (a little old lady who just wanted McQueen for her grandson) is SO much easier.
Sorry – comments issue fixed
Now everything is back to normal on the page, thanks Met
Did anybody get to order a case? My link says Pre-order but can not add to cart becasue sold out??? I had to log off for an hour and didn’t know if it was still messed up or if I missed it?
(MET: Nope, nothing yet).
DUDE! Sorry you missed it…
Just kidding…not live………………………………yet
Wow big type…. now big red type
got mine ordered
Kmart is holding me hostage. I am in Europe right now. I was in a meeting in my boss’s office for the first hour of the presale clicking refresh on the presale page every 2 minutes. Now it’s dinner time, I’m starving and I am stuck in my room waiting for the link to go live…..AHHHHHHH KMART!!!!!!
π
Reminds me of a line from the movie Ruthless People, I believe…
“I’ve been kidnapped by Kmart!”
And to think I was ducking out of a meeting to order the case…I think I’d rather be in the meeting..this is painful…
About as painful as watching reruns of Star Search
What about “TV’s Bloopers and Practical Jokes” with Dick Clark & Ed McMahon?
What about Solid Gold…at least they had the “Solid Gold Dancers”
Denny Terrio and Dance Fever???
Would you actually be able to focus at the meeting? Or would you be wondering if the page actually went live during the entire meeting? π
What meeting? HA!
guess I didn’t miss anything. Had to order some He-Man junk on Matty for a friend.
Ordering through their site is an even bigger hassle than K-Mart. Luckily, I have a direct link.
Thank goodness the webmaster doesn’t also run the in-store event! Never had a problem there.
Maybe he is the one that they took the scirrors away from when he does run
I’m still thinking they tried listing the cases from the last Cars day (which are sold out now) up for sale, instead of the new ones.
mmm I love Noahs Bagels…..Dont they have like 1800 calories?!
(MET: Do you put on cream cheese until you can’t see the bagel like I do? π ).
mmmmm….bagel
This Just In: the guy in charge of the website is also the guy who undoes every other light in each Kmart store. As soon as he’s finished delighting Store #476, he will make the website live.
I guessed 12:15 pm eastern time on the previous post… I lose again…
We must be OCD to spend all this time trying to order these…
And under the shipping methods it shows estimated delivery being 5/18 through 5/22, not 6/18 through 6/22…
More reasons to add to the list…
Since Iron Man 2 is out, we figured people wanted Iron Man 2 Toys…
The movie “Cars” came out in 2006… no one collects these toys anymore, right?
π GREAT list, Met.
It will be probably be up @ 10:00 am PST.
(MET: I could have slept in! π ).
My thoughts exactly…. π
except someone has to wake up early and get the kids ready for school… π
(MET: Remember when CARS Day was like Snow Day?)
Contest guess:
Postponed to 10 am central this Friday, May 21.
Actual time of sale: 10:34 am central (5/21)
π
After speaking with another person over the phone, it sounds like the problem may be related to them “linking” to last year’s item number. It may be checking the database for last year’s case inventory, which I suppose is sold out by now. It may have made things a lost simpler had they just decided to create a new Item page for this new case.
Last time item number – URL doesnt work, just tried it
http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_004W013906360001p?v
Oh, did they actually change the item number but just reused the old page & description?
this works but still not live to add to cart
http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_004W013906360001P
Movie trivia:
What movie is this line from?
Okay people lets pack em in, lets go lets go!!!
thats right a bunch of BAD A***’s
aliens
very good mike
Mets TFAD hit counter for Kmart should be a rackin em up on those points
I’ve been doing a more generic search to catch any changes:
http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/search_10151_10104?keyword=Disney+Cars+Collector&vName=&x=16&y=12
(MET: You’re replacing me with a search engine? That’s it – I’m definitely going back to bed).
Well Met, I um, you know, I um, well…
What’s Kmart’s stock price doing this morning?
Contest Guess:
10:15 mountain time
I hear an evil laughter somewhere.
It is 11:44 eastern time. The site came up with a pre order icon but when you click on it it will not add to cart do the the item being out of stock. What is going on?
Maybe Jerry Seinfeld forgot to set Dev’s alarm clock. Has someone called him to make sure he is awake?
BMW sent me an email that they had problems since last night and are working on it
I have places to go and people to see — they just need to declare a do-over and announce a new date & time.
I just tried again and got the preorder tab. When I clicked on it I got this “The item cannot be Added To Cart as it is presently Out Of Stock for Delivery.”
My guess in the office pool is Friday, June 11 at 8:00pm Eastern Time. At least that is what Matty thinks is the date and time of the in-store event.
I talked with Gerard Prince (on line buyer for Kmart) a minute ago they had a problem with IT last night, he is checking on it and will send me an email when he knows what the problem is.
Didn’t TFAD get a “private” link last time after the initial fiasco? Any chances that link is still valid?
maybe we shut down the servers again
I think the web page wouldn’t load at all if that was the case…
I called but didn’t get any useful information. The person just dictated what the web page says.
Here is the fun I just had on Kmart.com:
Rebecca R: Thanks for choosing Personal Shopper. How may I help you today?
you: I’m trying to purchase the Disney Cars Collector 24-pack, but this is not live yet. Can you help me?
Rebecca R: Unfortunately the Disney Cars Collectors Event 24 Pack is not available yet for pre order, that is why you are not able to add this item to a sales cart.
John: But your site says 10:00am Central Time.
Rebecca R: Please hold on while I research this for you. I will be back with you soon.
Rebecca R: Thanks so much for holding The reason you are not able to add this item to the cart is because, unfortunately at this time, this item is sold out right now and we are not able to take any more pre orders for this item right now.
Rebecca R: I do apologize for the inconveninece.
John: When did it sell out? I’ve been watching this link all morning and never saw it go live.
Rebecca R: It must have sold out very quickly. I have the item pulled up and it does say that it is out of stock.
John: Are you able to speak with Dev, the man in charge?
Rebecca R: I do apologize but I’m not sure who you are refering to. We have call centers all over the United States.
Rebecca R: Is there anything else that I can help you with today?
John: Also, the page says “Added September 27, 2009”. Are you sure the SOLD OUT information isn’t from that pre-order?
Rebecca R: I have this item pulled up on both sears.com and kmart.com and this item is sold out on both websites. I would be happy to email you once this item does come back in stock if you like. Again, I do apologize for the inconvenience.
Rebecca R: I have not received a response yet. Would you like to continue chatting with me?
John: What about the September 27, 2009 date?
Rebecca R: Please hold on while I research that. I will be back with you soon.
Rebecca R: That date could be a website error and I will report it to our Technical Department for further investigation. I know that they release these cars for pre-sale all of the time.
John: So will you be posting “SOLD OUT” on today’s event?
Rebecca R: That is correct. This item is sold out on both sears.com and kmart.com.
John: Will the page be taken down?
Rebecca R: I would be happy to email you when this item becomes available.
John: I thought it was sold out?
Rebecca R: That would be up to our Technical Department to have them look into this restocking issue.
Rebecca R: Yes, this item is sold out. The Disney Cars Collectors Event 24 Pack is sold out on both sears.com and kmart.com at this time.
John: Would you please email me then?
Rebecca R: Certainly. I would be happy to email you once this item becomes available again. Is there anything else that I can help you with today?
John: Thank you.
Rebecca R: Thank you for chatting with me: it was my pleasure to assist you. We welcome your feedback please click here to complete our Exit Survey. Thank you for choosing Personal Shopper today; we appreciate your business. Good bye!
Fun!
incompetent as usual
Ok I will guess 10:35 since that is when I need to leave.
I did the chat option, and was told that it won’t be active until Wednesday. Did anyone else try that route?
you’re trying to trick us so u can buy them alllllll!!!!!!
yeah still inactive. Seems familiar to the other pre-sales events where there was a delay.
Maybe if everyone looks away for a second, the site will go live.
nuthin yet
