Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Avert Your Eyes, Kids – It’s Dicey and It’s Slicey
John in MO writes in …
“One of my favorite new TV shows is “Sliced” on the History Channel. After making my comment today about lenticular eyes being glued on, I saw Moe’s reply which lead to me doing my own slice job tonight. I took an original Desert Art Lightning McQueen (left), and a Lenticular Lightning.”
Avert your eyes kids – and remember, he is an adult and after having an adult beverage or three, YOU are allowed to operate gasoline powered heavy tools & machinery in the confines of your property … and of course, any animals, diecast CARS or non-humans that wander within your arm range are fair game and perfectly legal as a home owner to slice and dice up … I believe that is the 72nd amendment … that I got out of a gum ball toy machine. And technically, I’m only allowed to practice law on Eyeland so don’t take my word or any parenting advice from me.
Also this …
It all starts out simple …
It’s nice in here but it would be nice to get out …
“To Serve Lightning McQueen,” I like the sound of that.
Whatcha gonna do with that oyster knife mister?
That’s right – million dollar eyes …
I do feel lighter after the purge …
Um, I don’t think you put me back correctly … I’m pretty sure I’m not supposed to see myself running over my own eyes …
The roads here need to be fixed – OUCH!
Okay, I think we found the rattle.
Fallen Bumper Lighting Chase – $175
Thanks John in MO …
Ummm… Kinda interestin’ eh? The insides and stuff… I guess we have at least a thousand different variants you need to dissect now, hmmm…
LOL!!! Way to go Buddy!!! There is no such thing as TOO FAR in this out=r wonderful world of CARS!!!
Not sure I get the point of this post….no sure there is a point. Can I have my 5 minutes back?
yeah, but your corn wasnt ready to harvest anyway!
😆 😆 😆
A Farmville reference. I love it. 😀
There is a great point to the post for parents who want to expand the horizons of the hobby for their kids. They can show the kids how to easily customize the Cars characters without a lot of mess.
The eyes can be scanned into any simple photo manipulation program (even Microsoft Word) from any number of drawings. Then it is just a matter of sizing and spacing the eyes. Reassemble the Car using small screws and washers from old junk video cassettes or other sources.
There is a lot of creativity to be unleashed into what is too often a static hobby.
I thought the program SLICE cuts things right down the middle…
Lucy!!!!!!!! U got sum splainin to do….
Thanks for your pioneering spirit, John! It looks like a piece of flat styrene from the local hobby shop in the correct thickness could be substituted for the lenticular blank. With a little paint and a couple of decals you could have any fixed eye expression you want.
Another choice would be to work without decals (or paint), substituting photo paper in an ink jet printer. You just print the eyes and color right on the paper. Then it is back to Kindergarden with scissors and glue. You could cut a clear ‘windshield’ from the bubble over a Cars character. I have used this technique to put eyes on non-Mattel vehicles and it works well.
If Mattel gives you lenticulars, fix ’em!
I think my kids are going to ask me to do this every night from now on!
The last photo reminds me of the wax lips I used to get when I was a kid LOL.
“Lightning Lips!”
Didn’t they have a set of Wax Mater teeth a few halloweens ago?
You can get the Mater teeth pops right now at TRU in original, Materdor or Mater the Greater.
