Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Viva La Difference Or Not So Much …
A couple of readers have asked for a clarification on some recent releases that look similar but are technically different … so here’s how to keep track …
This is “Weary Expression” BURNT LIGHTNING McQUEEN – Single Card Version.
This is “Ouch!” BURNT LIGHTNING McQUEEN – Mater Tall Tale Box Set Version (with Dr. Mater & nurse Mia & Nurse Tia).
Note the difference in the eye positions – “MurdockM” has noted that there is a single version with the eyes from the 4pack but the expression from the single – variant or error? just a few – then an error, more from various parts of the country? Then variant.
“Ay Carumba” expression – burnt and soaked? What a day – then you’re looking at SOAKED LIGHTNING McQUEEN – another Mater Tall Tale single.
“All this and wet too” expression – it’s WET LIGHTNING McQUEEN from the Final Lap series.
All clear so far – there will be a pop quiz when you least expect it.
The Rescue Squad Mater’s are actually more confusing in one sense since they all have the same name.
Of course, holding one, there’s is no doubt this is the SDCC Rescue Squad Mater in the SDCC Box set with Dalmatian Mia & Tia – Double Ransburg, rubber tires and is SOLID, SOLID FREAKIN’ METAL. In a photo – the ladder moves up & down as shown here.
CARS Ultimate DVD Box Set (with Gold Crusin’ McQueen) Rescue Squad Mater is Ransburg but not double coat, no ribber tires, and regular metal weight. In photos, ladder does NOT move up and down and less production quality. Nice but not ultra primo.
“Determined” expression Rescue Squad Mater from the MTT megasize line. Determined that you buy him 🙂
“Mildly surprised” expression Mater Tall tale Box Set Rescue Squad Mater (I get how many releases – woohoo!). (from the MTT Box Set with Rescue Squad Helicopter).
And now comes the difficult one …
This is DAREDEVIL LIGHTNING McQUEEN from the MTT megasize lineup. He has NO BUCK TEETH and NO FLAMES. This is the EXACT SAME DAREDEVIL LIGHTNING McQUEEN in the MTT 4-pack with BUCK THE TOOTH VENDOR.
This is DAREDEVIL LIGHTNING McQUEEN WITH TEETH from the MTT 4-pack Box Set (with Barney Stormin’). Reader “Saukoon” sent me a photo of DAREDEVIL LIGHTNING McQUEEN WITH TEETH that has slightly different eyes but since there’s no official release of that one yet, I’ll hold off judging it – maybe it’s a proto pic or maybe we will get DAREDEVIL LIGHTNING McQUEEN WITH TEETH as a megasize release with different eyes from the 4-pack but for now … there’s only one with teeth so far … officially.
This version of NO BUCK TEETH and FLAMES in the back has NOT been officially released in the US …
I think this is it for these three?
This post is why I love you so much MET 🙂 You bring clarity where otherwise I would be completely lost.
I guess I’ll give the buck tooth Daredevil McQueen a pass this round, not fair to pay the same price for the teeth
One of the posts is about the 5 different looks of Lug and/or Nutty. I’ve noticed there are 6 different versions…
Here is the single:

Hey Met, the Daredevil single #8 is different. It does not have the open mouth.
The three versions of Daredevil:
Aviator 4-Pack with Props McGee – buck teeth
4-Pack with Buck Tooth vendor – mouth open
MS single # 8 – mouth closed
Met, you forgot to mention they all come with a free fuzz coat! 😆
I have all except for the daredevil one. I’ve never seen him out here.
The last version is also missing his headlights 🙂
I have a headache….
Don’t collect them at all!!!
Geez….Mattel is just milking the molds. And as much as I hate this tactic, the funny thing is – I have them all 🙂
