Disney Pixar CARS: No Doc Hudson in CARS2
According to an interview with “Larry, the Cable Guy,” he says there is no Doc Hudson character in CARS2.
Personally, I think that makes sense on several levels.
It’s better as a tribute to let his character stand as a main character in CARS and not gloss over his passing by shoehorning Doc into CARS2 with a sound-a-like. It would not only be distracting but a constant reminder of how this new voice-actor is no “Paul Newman.” It’s better to retire the ‘Paul Newman’ character in a more fitting manner.
It also makes sense logistically. As CARS 2 is about a bunch of global races and you really want Mater to serve as McQueen’s crew chief & comic foil. The character of Doc served his purpose in mentoring & being helped himself by Lightning in the original CARS. That stands alone as a separate story.
And while we will miss George Carlin as a comic & poetic voice, the character of Fillmore is definitely a minor comic relief character. I’m sure he will only appear briefly but since his character is much less important – he can be filled by another voice. Doc would not be Doc without Paul Newman and it’s better we just remember him as Doc in CARS.

I think that disney pixar disappointed a huge crowd of fans by leaving him out. Yes my real name is Zoë Hudson and i love that we have the same last name. Doc had a huge fan base that I’m sure were waiting to see more of him in the sequel and were very disappointed. I know that I don’t want to see the sequel ever again it wasn’t the same without him.
I AM FEELING BAD THAT THERE IS NO DOC IN THE MOVIE….I NO…NO…WHOLE WORLD WANT HIM IN CARS 3…..SO HIM SOON
i hate to see that doc isn’t in cars 2 and he was my favorite character, but i understand what they’re saying. much like paul newman doc shall live on in everyones hearts, there isn’t a better voice actor for him then paul, RIP paul newman.
im real sad that doc wazent in cars 2 today i saw the movie and i new sumthing waz missing and when mater said doc would be proud of you then i new what was mising i almost cried seriously i said if doc chicks and king was i the movie it would be a 5 star movie so paul we love and miss you rip
They could have found an impersonator for a few lines and then wrote Doc out of the script in the first few minutes too.
This is so sad! Doc is my favorite character!

I hate to be wrong, but I hope they hire Edward Asner to voice Doc Hudson in Cars 2, I heard that his voice sounds just like Paul Newman’s voice and I also hope that they hire Brian George to voice Filmore, due to Cars: Mater-National the Video Game because his voice sounds just like George Carlin’s voice.
I have always loved doc hudson i love drawing him with sally\lightning and mater.My friends said to me that doc is in cars 2 for the rest of the day i was happy until i came across that he was not……. I all a sudden broke down in tears. ever since that day i have been drawing him non stop and said to myself is this going to wreak the next movie?as long as sally and lightning kiss in the next movie i will be happy.
I think a good choice for Fillmore would be Thomas Chong. Ke fits the bill as one of those hippy types and it would reunite him with Cheech Marin. As for Doc’s character I say its a good choice to leave him out.
Good choice on not putting Doc in the movie with a different voice. Although Newman would have been a good choice for a complete computer rendition of his voice. I’m not so sure that such a things been done yet. Does anyone recall a voice from the past being recreated completely in the computer to say whatever you want them to say for movies/commercials or the like? I’m sure it would be controversial unless of course the actor already agreed to it before death.

Pretty sad to see Doc go; but definitely agree with their decision. You just can’t replace Paul Newman. But I can imagine there will be many new characters to keep us distracted.
Wonder what the story will be – … on vacation? …. blew a header? … Screamin Banshee get a hold of him? …. Will he get a statue beside Stanley?
Who will the new doc be? .. Hopefully they bring in a mid 50’s – early 60’s style Cadillac ambulance … could do a Dracula character hearse off the same mold too, or Ecto-1 maybe? man the possibilities….
I am sure there was alot of discussion about this. While I am sad about it, I understand the circumstances. IMO I think it was a good idea. He will be missed by many!
