Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Tomy Takara Tokyo Mater …
Tomy Takara (of Japan) has not made as much of a commitment to the diecast line as Mattel has – they mostly do variants on the main townies but it’s interesting to see what the line might’ve looked like – at least width, height and girth wise …
Normally the CARS come in single boxes – much like the old, old school Matchbox cars.
In this case, it’s a two-pack … each car comes with a mini card (on the back is a film scene).
Since they don’t have Mattel’s resources to make new molds, these are essentially “tuned” Brand New Mater and regular McQueen instead of new body sculpts.
But one nice aspect is they are SOLID, SOLID metal. Small children will have trouble lifting them – but when they do, watch out! 🙂
Here it is compared to Mattel 1:55 Lightning … you can see the difference in width but most importantly, 1:55 just feels right …
It’ll be a fun comparison when both the Mattel versions are released …
I actually prefer this size, because my boy can use the wonderful Tomica playsets with them.
The matty ones are too big for the Tomic playsets.
I live in Japan so its easy for me to get the Tomica stuff. Maybe If I lived in the USA I would think differently
Is ebay the only option to get these or does anyone have any input about ordering?
Unless I am missing something that is not shown in the pictures, I disagree that the Tomy Cars look better than the Mattel versions. These are fine for what they are, toys, but the Mattel Cars are ususlly little sculptures. The proof is usually in the wheels and other details like the side windows.
The Tomys don’t even come close.
This does not mean that they are not worth collecting. They most certainly are, the hobby always big enough to handle every taste. I am just stating an opinion based on pure aesthetics.
where can I get these??? love them!!!
Wow they do a bit better than Matty! 😆
Tomy looks very good they do a little bit better than mattel! 🙂
I hope this was sarcasm?
Maybe 😆
I have a couple of McQueens, Lightning and Dinoco, made by Tomy. Very nicely made, look really good.
Very Nice! 🙂
