Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Favorite Lightning McQueen Lenticular?

How can you choose which one is the best Lightning McQueen Lenticular of 2009 …

There are 5 to pick from …

5?

Yep …

The first lenticular release – looks pretty much like the “normal” (Classic) Lightning McQueen other than the eyes. Essentially the same mold as nearly all of the 2006-2009 releases (and with corrected Rust-eze decal on spoiler).

But also in CASE A if you looked closely was the 2-piece Lightning McQueen, the front face-expression plate replaced with a plastic attachment – for cost savings of swapping out for other expressions.

That would seem to be the end of the story?

Nope.

In CASE C and the Raceway 4-pack with lenticular Chick, King & View Zeen, Lenticular McQueen has a different eye movement. His eyes do NOT close but instead, his right eyebrow dips slightly … Version 3.

Is there a 1-piece body version of this? Maybe? As of now, I have only see the 2-piece “winking” version available in CASE C & in the 4-pack.

So, now, the story ends?

Nope.

The new WOC: Night Skyline release features 2 more versions.

The new right to left eyes shift available in a one-piece “traditional” version and …

A two-piece version (with the new right to left eyes movement) … so there are definitely 5 lenticular versions. Are there 6? Is there 7 days left in 2009 so time to sneak in a few more to ‘collect them all?’

Need a chart?

Er. CTA?

BTW, the Final lap-classic non-lenticular release of LM is a traditional 1-piece body (so far).

Thanks for the additional info & help, “LCC-20.”

Just when you think they couldn’t do worse than the Lenticular Cars…now 4 eyes Lenticular Cars. What were they thinking? I found the new 3 Packs yesterday and those eyes are ridiculous!

  • carscrazydd says:

Met, The “is there a one-piece version of Lenticular Lightning McQueen #3” is hereby answered, there is. I pulled one off a peg at Target last night. I have 5 out of 6, have not seen #5 on your list show up here yet.

In response to this post, I cannot answer the question how can you choose, because I cannot pick one I like over the others! You won’t be able to back my sons in the corner and get a definitive answer either! I am collecting them all, I have one philosophy – if it is a Lightning McQueen and something changes on the car, I’ll collect it! I like every McQueen, every one is a favorite!

In response to people having opinions on whether they like or dis-like a certain aspect of a die-cast vehicle line, they have a right to their opinion. As long as all of us keep things clean, which is required for all of us to be able to have our say, where is the harm in stating that you either like/dis-like/love/hate lenticulars?

(MET: That’s interesting to know – thanks, I’ll have to look harder then 🙂 Yea, you are free to love or loath lenticulars and as long as you use words that don’t cause a banning, feel free to express yourself and your opinions 🙂 ).

Wrong wrong wrong…. On sooooo many levels…

I know this will be a moot point for many folks but there is one nice thing about the lenticulars. If you decide to repaint a car, the plastic windshield makes working on the eyes much easier. You have the option of leaving them unpainted or painting them over and adding them to the body later. Much less masking.

  • racerguy says:

Don’t have a favorite, but if I HAD to choose, I’d choose #4.

  • Scully says:

My son got his first lenticulars for Christmas and I’m kinda in the middle. I don’t mind the open/shut eyes but the left/right eyes are kinda strange. Most of the time they end up looking like 4 eyes.

Kids…just say No to “Look! My Eyes Change”

Your 3 year old didn’t say anything, but in his mind he was saying…crap, now my friends are gonna make fun of me.

    • WillsCars says:

No, the three year olds I know, don’t make fun of each other over the toys each owns. It’s only the immature adults(?) here who feel the need to. This is a great informative site. It’s a shame the same people feel the need to muddy the replies with and endless amount of moaning and groaning. Every one knows there are a few who don’t like Lenticulars, you don’t have to keep reminding the rest of us.

      • NO Lenticulars says:

You’re absolutely right, this site is great and the negative comments bring everyone down.

I mean really, people have lost sight of the fact that these things are designed, produced, and sold for children. Not adult collectors!

Then again, if one takes some time (1/100th of the amount of time I’ve spent looking for Muddy Mcqueen this week), to research the company that produces these toys, one would realize that it’s CEO is 95th on the Forbes Executive Pay list for 2009. Now did he get to that pay level by taking money from three year old children? No, of course not. He achieved his ranking on that list by convincing THE PARENTS of three year old children to shell out their money.

My point is this, I think the negative comments stem from people feeling alienated by the changes that Mattel has made to the line. Many started down the “collect them all” path thinking we would be able to do that, but with the expansion and mutation of the line that’s now nearly impossible.

I think as paying adults and parents, we can all agree that with the time and money spent on this endeavor it’s not unusual to need to vent once in awhile. Lucky for us, MET lets us do that.

        • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

There are numerous ‘negative’ comments in the Cars World. The ‘negatives’ are not limited to the lenticular line. You can bet your last dollar that Mattel is monitoring this site and other sites. Every major company has personnel assigned to peruse the Internet looking for comments concerning their products and services. There is an old adage that basically states forms letters are tossed aside. One hand written letter is deemed representative of numerous similar persons holding the same belief. If I were monitoring this site, I would be paying attention to the lack of Final Lap Cars, the frustration of finding products, etc. If all respondents keyboarded, “Hey, these lenticulars are swell!, Mattel would not be getting a true representation of feedback.

When I wrote a cordial letter of complaint to TRU’s head of cars, I received a telephone call from his office thanking me for writing to express a serious problem with the first mail in promotion. The call was followed up by a cordial written response and the mail in Cars for not only the first promotion but the second promotion which was not even offered yet, as well as an assortment of single pack Cars. I also received a response
          from Mattel.

On another issue with Mattel concerning a Hot Wheels promotion that went wrong at our local K-Mart, I received a three party telephone call from Mattel and K-Mart. Mattel acknowledged fault in the local problem, and, sent me an unsolicited packet containing a Hot Wheel baseball cap and the bonus promotional Hot Wheel for the Hot Wheel event.

In neither case did I solicit any of their products. In both instances Mattel, K-Mart and Toys R Us thanked me for taking the time to write concerning a valid complaint.

So, yes, keep it clean when posting. I’m sure Mattel product development is reading everything on this site.

PS: Mattel, please make the Final Lap/Classic Line available to ALL retailers.

          • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

Without trying to open the proverbial can of Nitro-Ade, I think logically it would make sense for Mattel to have people scouring the net and picking up on where they could improve services/products. It would then seem logical they would make those corrections and suggestions. However people have been complaining about similar issues on here for a long time and Mattel, if they are listening, are doing nothing to fix it.

That said, Martin was (and at times is) around on this site and was great in acknowedging people’s concerns, and I in no way mean this as a slight on him. IMHO we can complain all we want but they are but small things in a big cog of a wheel that keeps turning (if you know what I mean). 🙂

            • WillsCars says:

I would be very surprise if Mattel monitors this site. This site has around 1,950 people signed up and I imagine there are many more people who collect who aren’t signed up. So if you were to double the number of people here and say there are close to 4,000 adults collecting CARS world wide, that’s still a very, very small number of collectors. Now add up all the people who have posted that they don’t like Lenitculars, an that’s an extremely small number. Why would Mattel be overly concerned about a few people who don’t like Lenticulars when they are selling? I know someone will post that Lenitculars aren’t selling where they live, but where I am they are. As stated above, and it seems many don’t want to accept this, but all this stuff is made for kids, not Adult collectors.

  • Edge says:

I didn’t know there existed such a thing as a “favorite” Lenticular? The amount of lenticulars in my collection is at a steady zero.

  • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

I prefer the “Look My Eyes Don’t Change” version. Since Mac, Transporter now comes with a talking chip in it, when will there be a ‘talking’ McQueen. After all, if Hallmark can market greeting cards with a chip for $4.99, can Mattel be far behind with ‘talking’ Cars? Then we can have a zillion McQueen variations along with every other Car! 🙂 Should drive MET nuts!

  • WillsCars says:

Thank you for the chart Met! Mater might need a chart soon? I also have a three year old and he likes Lenticulars. We went to a birthday party of one of his friends who just turned three. His friend got some Lenticulars and the only thing he said was “look mommy” (referring to he eyes). Then off all the boys went to play with the cars. As I’ve said before, it’s great to have so many options while collecting this line!

  • Patrick says:

    The last McQueen

  • iamspeed says:

    Be gone with lenticulars!!!

  • Mr. T says:

I say ptui on the googly eyes – 🙁

  • jestrjef says:

I have to say that I am AMAZED that Mattel has gone to such lengths to work on the Lenticulars. My son got his first one for Christmas from a grandparent and he said, “Daddy, what’s wrong with his eyes? They look weird.” He is 3 years old! 😆

  • cac1959 says:

If you ask me, that’s 4 too many Lenticular Lightning McQueens… and I am not as anti-lenticular as some of my Cars collecting friends.

  • louise.uk says:

Still think aggro mcqueen looks the best.
