Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: New Target Scanners-Get Your Geek On
The geekiest post of the day – maybe 🙂
The newest Target stores now have a touchscreen.
Tap the screen and you get …
A keypad to enter in numbers (DPCI) or words …
You get a larger and nicer screen with more information options with stockroom info AND to search your neighboring Target stores without having to find a clerk.
Tapping it brings up the following screens for more searching.
Happy shopping!
One is in Greenland NH; it does not mention stockroom info as I recall on those.
2 new Targets by me had these for @ 2 weeks, then took them down and replaced them with the old ones.
(MET: that’s weird – too much info? 🙂 ).
Our newest Target that opened in October has these scanners and they really are convenient with the added feature of telling you if any other stores in the area have the product.
Well in my area you can forget about TRYING to find a Hot Wheels Treasure Hunt Car as “ALL” CASES are open and picked over in the BACK ROOM before they ever hit shelves/pegs. I am Refering to TARGET/Wal-Marts/K-Mart/Toys R US and Big Lots!
Very nice to see. So that means that our Targets are now 2 variations removed from the newer scanners. Seeing as how ours don’t even have the data entry buttons on the side. I’m surprised that they’re not using an abacus to add up stuff at check out.
The funny thing here is that, like all other good things happening in the US (tv shows, movies, toys, gadgets), this is not available in Australia and again will be light years before it even gets here, if it does. Can someone please explain why the US is in a timewarp ahead of everyone else?
(MET: We also have a 6-lb hamburger – please swing on by for a visit!)
Not for everything. I know we’re generally behind a few years in electronics from Japan. When I lived in Germany they had self checkout shopping at grocery stores back in 1994. I didn’t start seeing that here in the US until a few years ago. 😛
Cub Foods stores had self checkout back in 1988.
And I mean ALL self-checkout, no cashiers.
I confirmed with Target at two different stores that they now have a corporate “Anti-Collector” policy for Hotwheels & Cars items from Mattel. They said they will not pull boxes from the back unless they don’t have any of that item on the floor because collectors would ask them to bring it out, grab what they want, and then they would be left with a half empty box. The problem with this system is that they use the same DPCI for so many different items that they may have one of those items hanging, but there are 15 different varieties (i.e. Haulers). I tried explaining this but they wouldn’t budge.
I’ve only been able to convince one floor manager to pull a case and guess what…it wasn’t the case I needed. So she wasn’t too happy that she did me a “favor” and I didn’t buy anything from it. I probably should have pretended I found the item I needed. Wal-Mart on the other hand is pretty good at grabbing stuff or I just pull it off their truck stacks, but unfortunately, they haven’t had anything good lately.
This alleged policy has been around for a while now. One of the Targets around here used to have a sign by the hotwheels/cars that they wouldn’t pull anything from the stockroom. But as with most things, it just varies by store and employees.
It also helps if you have a little one ask instead. 😉
Anti-collector policies are very interesting. I’m not sure where I sit with such a policy and I know this isn’t really the place to harp on morally about how people should behave. Very interesting hearing stories about them though.
Maybe this new model will display “In Stockroom: Never, and even if Yes, we won’t bring it out for you.”
That’s fantastic!!! Which store has this one?
This is the coolest thing i’ve ever seen 🙂
You need to get out more!
Aye pirate! Ye sword be sharp as of lately…
That’s totally awesome!
Has anyone else gotten a postcard in the mail from Mattel about filing a claim for a recalled toy? I’m assuming I got one b/c we sent our leaded Sarge back.
Yes, I got several in the mail on the same day a couple weeks ago. I figured I made several lists because of the Sarge recall, as well as the Blu-Ray McQueen, Sidewall Shine, and N2O Cola promotions.
I got two of them about two weeks ago; because I returned two of the Sarge.
I got one too. Threw it away. Assumed it was because of the leaded Sarge I returned. Why would I sue or be entitled to a claim when Matel was responsible and sent me a certificate for my full purchase price? True, I still don’t have a Sarge but….
The sarge recall was at least 2 years ago now. It takes Mattel that long to send a postcard back? Sheesh, no wonder they can get any stock to any stores.
The lawsuit isn’t only about the Sarge.
SWEET!!! 🙂 Now only if they would install them in my old Target…
Very cool! I especially like the button that says “Find It At Another Target Store” — now if only there were a “Hold This Item For John In Missouri At Customer Service At That Other Target Store”.
(MET: There’s probably a USB in somewhere 🙂 ).
