Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Bessie is Paving The Way-A Pictorial
Not quite here yet but moving slowly towards the shores …
As we march towards the completion of CARS, the diecast line* … don’t forget to admire the details that goes towards making rolling pieces of art …
Art is where the sum is greater than the parts …
The streets are paved one bucket at a time …
“For, all day the wheels are droning, turning; their wind comes in our faces,
till our hearts turn, our heads with pulses burning.”
(Elizabeth Barrett Browning –
I’m pretty sure she was writing about diecast CARS … I hope I get an A)
“landscape plotted and pieces- fold, fallow, and plough, and all trades,
their gear and tackle and trim.”
(Gerald Manley Hopkins)
“Am I hard enough? Am I rough enough …”
(Mick Jagger & Keith Richards)
“Welcome my son, welcome to the machine. Where have you been? It’s alright we know where you’ve been. You’ve been in the pipeline, filling in time, provided with toys …”
(Roger Waters)
Man, I could use a foamy Nitroade smoothie … but that avocado spa wrap is nice …
You can practically see the gurgling and feel the heat … it’s transcendent …
*It’s the greatest diecast line EVER …
(Cactus McQueen not included).
Thanks for the art direction help Double-O-3
I want her!
Ladies & Gentlecars,
Yeah it’s me right quick. Old habits die hard so I pop in every now and then just to see what’s up. Miss you guy’s.
Don’t care what anybody says, our diecast Characters still rock the house.
It’s good to see you post!!! π
Love the showgirls!! Was able to find 2 of the 3!!! They are BEAUTIFUL.
I second what Chuki_mama said!! Glad to see you drop in, anytime!
Your diecasts are amazing… and we can only hope you will have some input on any new ones…. it just wouldn’t be the same without your touch!
Hi Martin!
Hope life is treating you well – we miss you but still very much appreciate all your creativity and beautiful work on these cars!
Amen! Martin, the Motorama girls are….lets say Chesley Bonestell would be proud,

Very cool! I hope to see this soon!!
You also have to keep in mind that Disney does not have the royalty rate load that Mattel has so they can afford more in the product they put on the shelf.
It is not a apples to apples comparision……………. Disney can afford more.
Hey, is that a voice from the past that I’m hearing(reading)? π
Thanks for the FYI. π
It’s nice to see you post every now and then. Hope you are doing well!!
Did he just say “apples”?
Is that like “84”?
Or Re-Volting? Someone fill me in on why we have 2 number 84 cars again??? Considering we have three digit racers out there and only need 36 of them, what gives???
(MET: See right hand column for RECAP PAGE).
MET – you get an A+ π
*it is the greatest diecast line ever… and its still coming in full force!
Ole!
hope it is up to scale because i am rather unhappy with the size of richard the security van
Interesting how Mattel tends to get things too SMALL. . . while Disney likes to make things too BIG. . . Guido π
Maybe Disney designers are compensating for something….? hehehe
It would be interesting to get an Exec from each company to do the Subway Five Dolla Foot Long song together just to see the desparity in their hand measurment when they sing the “foot long” part. I tend to think Mattel’s design team is run by a man and Disney’s by a woman. (Settle down now, no offense just an observation…) I know that a man’s interpretation of a foot tends to be purposefully smaller than a woman’s. We tend to interpret units of measure with a bit of optimism because it somehow all ties to the size of our … brains! π
π
Hahahaha, I love this Bessie.. and the comments about size just make me think about the many adventures of Frank we have had. I think I now have like 4 or 5 sizes of Frank… right?
Frank with the board game
Plastic Frank with the playset with Plastic McQueen
OS Frank from Mattel
and MEGA Frank from Disney.
…. guess that makes 4 sizes. . Love ’em all! They only get better with time. . .
so far we are only at 2 Bessie’s. . . . Disney will make it right in the end π
Thats true, only better with time. My favorite is when my son takes Mega Sized Frank and chases down his mini McQueen and Mater! So if nothing else this Bessie is the right size for the Mini Adventures! Mia is right: they always get it right in the end: Frank, Fred, DJ. And for now we will have a beautiful Bessie while we wait!
I want a Big Al.
Hope Disney Store gets a Bessie. Disney Store Frank is first class all the way!
The tastiest lookin’ dirty I have ever seen!!!
And I am French! I should know dirty…
Anyone else need a little “modification” to their day? How about a little Tokyo Drift Mater?
http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Disneys-Car-Tokyo-Mater_682199.htm
Awesome.
How about a 4-pack with Bessie, Impound McQueen, Doc, and Mater, with the packaging being the background of the courthouse/firehouse and the corner setting.
Disney Store version: You push a little button and Doc says “This here’s Bessie. Finest road pavin’ machine ever built!”
or push the button and Bessie vibrates up n down like in the movie
With “simulated” bubbling hot tar?

Here’s the real Bessie:

pretty cool
I see a big disappointment coming. π
Met, how about a side-by-side comparison to the little plastic Bessie that came with the playset a couple years ago?
(MET: Don’t have that one – not part of the 1:55 series).
Well why don’t you just go ahead and send me the Bessie pictured above, and I will send you some comparison photos. π
Looks like this one will probably be 50% plastic. π
Initial reports state that is is rather heavy which would suggest a lot of metal. We will see when the rest of us finally get one.
(MET: All the yellow parts are metal – which is about 90%).
Sorry but to me it looks more like 75% yellow
Then you don’t have to buy it I guess. Always with the negative here
90 % SWEET!!! must have!! can mqueen be puled with a hand and bessie follow conected???
mabee they rerelease mater to actually tow! what a kid can dream cant he?
I can’t wait to get one! Bessie does look a tiny bit out of scale. I was looking at the movie and comparing it to the Scale View photo here. It really isnβt that bad. The Side By Side view photo with McQueen in front of Bessie, is misleading. It makes McQueen look much bigger then he really is to Bessie. I assume Mattel is making these with the idea that these are toys and they need to stay within a certain production cost.
Iβm amazed with all the negative comments with this group. Yes, I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but Iβm wondering why some who are seemingly so unhappy, even collect this line. In all the years Iβve been collecting various things, people usually arenβt happy because there isnβt enough items to collect. Also, you just know that anytime a post is about Lenticulars the same few just have to complain about those. I think people seem to forget these are TOYS that we adults like to collect, not adult collectables.
Yeah, I was going to say it looks like mostly plastic, and the scale is off, as expected.
I really hope the Disney Store gets their own version, scaled like Frank.
Lizzie could pull THIS Bessie!
Maybe even Guido…..
But its still cool and I will buy at least one!!! Its just a tad small!!!!
And they say size doesn’t matter! π
Thats what Pirate Dad says anyway
It is KNOT the size of the boat, but the motion of the ocean!!!
Maybe it’s meant to be a Mini Adventure vehicle, like the Screamin’ Banshee.
i hope not π
FINALLY!!! One of our dreams from June 2006 is finally being realized!
Wow. Awesome.
