Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Customizers to the Mater Rescue!
While the Mater Tall Rescue Ambulance is great …
Um, how exactly are you supposed to transported sick or burnt CARS to the CARS hospital when the back doors to the ambulance do not open?
“IamSpeed” has made the FIX!
I’m not going to try it because I sense it involves a box knife and precision … I do not want to know as lefty …
And my guess is he had to build a “floor” inside the ambulance as I’m sure it was just bare plastic inside.
Looks great!
And if have doubts as to what it should look like?
Working diorama with flames!
And the Helicopter is here to give it a bright light look …
So good luck fixing your ambulance – don’t blame me for any emergencies requiring a real life ambulance with working doors! Thanks ‘IamSpeed.”
βIamSpeedβ Are you ANC from HK or are we getting a real AMBULANCE with rear opening door ???

Thanks
Wow! Looks like its a real Pixar Ambulance on card according to the auction. You don’t miss much.
No He is not Craig from Australia, yes I said Australia, why he has that listed that way is beyond me
This customazation is what i have in my mind when i learned that the ambulance doors don’t open
Salute to lamSpeed
btw one question here, does the compartment in the ambulance fit a whole McQueen?
Looks great! My son was so dissapointed that it didn’t open when I gave it to him. Owell, we are just happy to have an Ambulance!!
Mattel should hire great minds like yours. You need to consult a fan to really give the public what they want, since whole departments in a toy manufacturer can’t get it right. Like I always say, wish I was that talented.
Very nice iamspeed!
It would have been great if Mattel actually made the ambulance with doors that opened.
yeah but they would have DOUBLED the price and called it an ACTION figure cuz the door moved!! π
AND we would still buy it. π
Great job.
Thanks CM!
Check out the CARS Race O Rama video game coming out in October!

I am offering these for sale. With the cost of the ambulance, time and materials, I’m selling them for $30.00 . That’s with the disassembly of the entire ambulance, doors, floor installed, and reassembled. Shipping will be $5.00 Priority Mail within the US.

You know what? Let’s make it $30.00 SHIPPED(within the US) for TakeFive readers.
This is AWESOME with a capital “A”!!
nice work! Love the recreation of the scene in the short!
so are the doors stuck in the open position? or do they open and close now! π
hinges to be added later . . . .right??
The idea was to be able to recreate Lightning being put into the ambulance by Mater. I looked at options for hinges, really didn’t see anything that would work well and keep the look nice and clean.
brass tubing inserted in each end of the frame of the box and brass rod inserted in each end of the door, would work for hinges, epoxy them in, a little paint…?
Even better yet:

Very nice! What did you use to cut out the doors?
My 3-year old son asked me why the doors don’t open. Can’t understand why the people at Mattel didn’t raise the question. It would have maybe cost 5 cents more to have it done.
First time was a steady hand and a sharp Xacto…but I’ve moved on to power tools to make it more precise.
As I said earlier, the entire ambulance has to be disassembled, a floor installed, internal parts removed, etc.
cool and simple.
I don’t know about simple..the entire ambulance has to be disassembled to be able to do this.
very nice. does the inside really look like that? if so, why did they not make the doors open anyway?
cool custom!
No, there is no interior other than the “frame” that you see from the bottom….which also supports the axle and wheels.
I have to remove the rear supports and make an actual “floor” to make it look finished and give Lightning something to rest on…the floor is slightly sloped to the rear due to a section of the frame that can’t be removed and still support the vehicle.
talented. I love your retrofit.
