Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Toys R Us Says We R Going to Sell Toys
Finally a retailer living up to its name*
Toy R Us will be opening 80 stand alone Toys R Us Express Outlets in October and then closing them in January.
PLUS, they realized they could sell toys in Babies R Us … so 270 Babies R Us are also getting a toy section for the holidays.
That’s 350 total mini Toys R Us stores-sections. The standalone stores will average 4,000 square feet and the Babies R Us express stores will average 2,500 square feet.
We don’t know exactly what they will carry but they will definitely get some CARS as one of the best selling toy lines … though, I’m not sure if anyone will be stunned if they get in one shipment in October and then it’s empty-peg city until January …
But they are hiring so if your eBay store needs new inventory (I kid, I kid) 🙂 …
Well, I guess now I have an excuse to go the mall (well, as long as it’s by Victoria Secrets and Cinnabon).
Via the WSJ.
*hard to find walls at Walmart and not many targets available at target.
LAST!!!
MET, is there any way to find out where and when these will be opening, like some sort of list? Thanks
(MET: I asked – we’ll see if they can find one … at least you know here the Babies are R are … but as someone said who foudn an EXpress store – not much so far …).
Found a TRUHE store in Irvine, CA. Prices are 15% higher, NO DIECAST, lcd car game, lots of Haulers (think they will stay on the shelf), and Mack carrying case, couple other items that I do not remember. Not worth it at this point.
Oh, so very dissapointing.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Off-topic, but has anyone seen the CARS pack at Costco yet? I checked with our Costco, they hadn’t seen anything about a CARS pack for this year, and they’ve got a lot of Christmas items out already….didn’t sound promising. Nothing on their website, either.
KMart will have on line presales, on the 27th of Sept, just heard from Dev at KMart. Met will post the details soon I am sure.
Case of 24 cars
My local mall is over 50% vacant- no lying here, 150+ storefronts vacant. Made the SD County paper. HOPEFULLY TRU can find one of those that suits their liking…. And no shortage of Babies’R’Us’ around here, so hopefully they get some decent toys.
Dude! Which mall is that?
Westfield North County Mall in Escondido, CA.
Wow. I remember going there ages ago when the mall opened in the late 80’s I think. It was the first time I’d ever seen a mall with 3 stories on it!
Otherwise, when we’d visit my Grandmother, we’d usually go to Grossmont Center in La Mesa, Parkway Plaza in El Cajon, or out to Mission Valley or Fashion Valley. And if we were downtown, there was always Horton Plaza.
Ah, for the days of my youth when malls were cool.

ooooooohhhhh, I love Cinnabon, I wish our mall had one!
When you visit, my treat and don’t I still owe you coffee? 😀
mmmm…. coffee, coffee, coffee…. we are so there!!!
😆
Cheese on a Stick and lemonade…
sbarro pepperoni-sausage ricotta cheese calazone
not a fan of ricotta cheese…..
So weird…. Just heard about this this morning and came home to post to see if anyone had heard anything……..
Met……..never fails to amaze! 🙂
I don’t live in the US so it won’t affect me but it looks like a great win for the customers. It does make me think how profitable it would be for TRU having to setup those new stores just for a few months sales.
Sweet!
Maybe all TRU’s will hand over all of their SC Green Ramone’s to these stores!
Will this be happening in Canada as well?
There are new Cars Toons Pics:

Hope This Helps!
Anyone have a magnifying glass? 🙂
Sweet – do I have a chance of getting one of these in Bozeman MT?? We have a mall, but no TRU. PLEASE PLEASE!!
What a great deal, especially with the upcoming TRU promo. Lets hope they stock LOTS of cars… (and trains! heheheheh)
thats not where they make that cheap salsa is it? or is that NEW JERSEY?
I resemble that remark! I love Jersey salsa!
The question is…will they restock store items, or only give a finite amount of toys at a location?
I swear that some of these temporary stores run that way: they put up product only once, and then just leave them to see if they’ll all run out.
I’m just feeling rather spent, expecting to just find Lenticular McQueens.
I see I’m not the only one who has grown tired of malls. Malls used to be where you’d find things. I’ve walked through several malls in the last year, and left with all my money still in pocket.
I’m with you! The malls in western Washington are not conducive to meandering the floors checking out things unless you are looking for clothing and shoes. Once upon a time there were hobby shops, toy stores, bookstores, baseball card shops, etc. Now there’s nothing unless it’s clothing. All the great places are in the older sections of town or strip malls.
JC Penny and Sears use to have year around toy sections with store exclusives. Even the Bon Marche (now Macy’s via The Bon) use to sell toys. The Disney Stores are gone for the most part. Warner Brother Studio stores are history.
It use to be malls sought to have a nice blend of stores to attract all shoppers hoping for the prospect the shopper would visit more than one store. Now the mall leases to the highest bidder for space, even if the bidder has no track record and will go broke before the lease expires.
Fortunately, in Pierce County (WA), if you’re interested in trains, plastic models, comic books, crafts, etc, you can still satisfy your thirst at neighborhood shops. If you live in rural Washington, well, Welcome to Wal-Mart.
It was a sad day in our house when the Warner Bros. Studio Store closed. My husband still morns the loss.
that would be “mourns”.
Sort of reminds me of the Hickory Farms stores that would pop up in normally-empty stores in the malls well before the holiday season, then disappear again not long after the holidays!
Maybe TRU will have Hickory Stick sausage/salami?
I think I would pass on toy store salami, but worth a try I suppose… 🙂
You, know there are a lot of seasonal fronts out here. For instance, the Halloween store just opened a week or so ago, and will vacate right after the holiday. Those places may be ripe for the pickin’ for these seasonal TRU fronts. If not, it seems like more and more stores are leaving the malls as more and more folks are using the internet to do all their shopping, or aren’t shopping at all. I guess there will always be store front locations in the mall from that perspective. God knows we could do without another version of Gap or Abercrombie/Hollister. Bring on the overpriced toys (with or without cheese logs and summer sausage)!
Now you’ve reminded me about the big cheese balls that HF always had!
I think this is a great idea, but most of the malls in my area ALREADY have a TRU right outside of it or with in a mile of it . . . any idea how to find a LIST of these stores?? Met . . . 🙂
Hope it works out well for them and us!!! Another place to add onto the cars hunt route.
Great IDEA!! Hope it works out vERY well for them and they don;t let WM win!!!
FIRST! Okay, I feel lame now
Honestly, this is a great idea by TRU. Way to compete! It’s about time they justify their high prices with some new temporary store fronts. Let’s just hope this doesn’t cause even more price spikes at the Toys R US… I look forward to adding these express locations to my weekly route. LOL
Wonder if they will have HIGHER prices in these stand alone stores?
I don’t know….can prices at TRU get any higher? They’re $1 higher on RSM Megas and singles, $3 higher on 4 piece RSM sets.
They openly admit they’re higher than everyone else, but they don’t even match prices to try to compete with lower prices.
