Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Final Lap – Proof is in the Photo
Ben J. spotted this yesterday and might not have had a sleepless night but countless other CARS buyers did … but the proof is not in the pudding (section) but in the CARS section:
No other Final Lap CAR was on the peg … and yes, the arrow sticker is odd …
The sticker is on the outside of the card and if I had to guess, I would say it’s a factory production inspector sticker indicating there’s something wrong that is pointed out as a reason for ‘rejecting’ this card but clearly the packer could care less and packed it in – maybe with just a regular case?
But FIRST is still FIRST even if it’s an possible error card … or error pack at the factory …
Ben does note a few other bits of facts … that its production date is earlier than some of the other CARS on the pegs, no real surprise … as Fabulous Hudson Hornet is clearly a CAR with ongoing production.
The other bit of info is that the no DPCI number comes up in the scan and they had to manually enter a number at the register …
So, most likely it’s still too early – since it’s not even in the system, maybe a few weeks away but it does look like the Final Lap CARS have different DPCI numbers.
Yesterday’s post with links to first CARS due in (not case assortment).
Thanks Ben & BMW for the great pics and news – not a boat load but it’s a start!
You know what makes the Final Lap photo totally believeable? It’s nestled in a sea of Tumbleweek McQ’s and Trunk Fresh pitty.
MET, will lizzie ever be re- released again on ROR or final lap packaging, shes one of the only cars i dont have.
(MET: I would think so since she hasn’t been out in about a year but then there’s no real good explanation why Sarge took 2 years … but don’t overpay …).
PirateDad may have some spares 🙂
I do, I do indeed… PirateDad95@gmail.com
I wonder if any of us will ever take our Cars obsession to this level?

WOW 2!!! Now that is AWESOME!!! He can come by my place and hook me up! 😉

I would if I could…!!! Cars style!!!
holy cow.. those cases are super sweet!! .. but i want to know HOW THE HECK do they keep their house THAT clean!! haha
NO KIDS!!!!!! hahahahahahahahahahahaha
maid?
R2D2 Dudes! The cleanest of the clean when it comes to vacuums that work on their own… Bumpin’ into walls and sendin’ secret messages to princesses… You know…
Great! Get me one dressed as McQueen and call it VROOM-BA!!!
hahahahahahahahaha…. that is freakin’ hilarious!!!!1
Why did they put the cute little Matty on the bottom middle of the back of the card instead of the older Matty?
People are less likely to bash a cute child!!
(MET: Baby Matty actually original 1960’s Mattel logo … they only updated it with the grown up version to launch Matty.com last year just so collectors of action figures in furry tights might feel better about their collection 🙂 ).
Love your new avatar!!!
Thanks.. 😀
wow can’t wait for the final lap, esp. blowing bubble mater.
All the surounding cars are old. How can this have come from a case when it’s the only one? I say,”HOAX!” I need more proof that this was not bought from some other source. We all know how they seem to walk out the back door of the factory. 😕
It’s real!! 😀 Sweet!
Mmmhhhuuuhahahahaaahaaa
I let ONE slip through, so you wood know what you are missing. But the rest are safely hijacked by my trusty gang of PIRATES!!!
Mmmmmuhhhhuuuuuaaahaaaaaaa!!!!!
oh…. so it was YOU that collected all the booty!!!
Ha! I bet BenJ flew to Asian, rummaged through the discarded trash bin outside the factory, pilfered the Fabulous Hornet, flew back to the USA, sneaked it back on the peg, all to win the contest! Cars at any cost! 🙂
Maybe Dev did.
Now that is funny Steve! Actually Ben is in graduate school at Duke University. So no funny business here. He actually left it on the peg last night, but knew it was unusual, and called me. We were on the cell phone this morning when he went back to Target, and got it.
I think Met is spot on in his assessment of what Ben found. A Final Lap factory error card, and a Final Lap factory error shipment. Still none on ebay. So its still first_ in_ the_ nation_, regardless of how it got here. Very lucky find.
His grandmother….
You must be proud…(wipes a tear from his good eye)
Thanks PD,
Turns out that Final Lap was found in So. Cal on Thursday the 10th! Just heard about it. No pics though.
Are you going to sell this? Keep it? Kind of historical, especially with that red arrow on there.
John,
I asked Ben that very question. He is going to keep it, especially with the story behind it, his store receipt and date, the contest, and this great blog. It will be a fine story to tell his grandkids someday when his grandmother has gone to the Great Cars Land….
maybe it was the only one left when he arrived, someone else bought the others.
No surprise…. he was mixed amongst pegs of Tumbleweed McQueens and Trunk Fresh Pitties. Looks just like my Target… minus the FINAL LAP CAR!!! 🙂
Hehe, I was thinking the same thing Mia! I posted it waaay at the end before I read all the way back up here to the top.
Stopped by my 2 local Targets and no sign of the Final Lap Dance …sorry…thinking about something else 😉 anyway… I scanned one of the ROR Cars and it showed “no” backstock. I doubt they will officially show up anytime soon. This was obviously just a fluke mistake by the factory who packed one factory reject car in one of the case assortments that was delivered to that Target in NC. I did find however, the Team Leakless Target Exclusive. It however did not scan for price. I did not even try to buy it. I left it there. If anyone is interested I guess I can go back and get it if it’s still there.
agreed
Wow, just checked Ebay and no sign of this Target Exclusive Team Leakless. Now I will have to provide Met a picture as well.
(MET: Did post of Team Leak Less with pic last week).
yah you better.. hahha .. maybe there was MORE THAN ONE??
Yeah, I found Team Leakless, Dinoco, and Chick in the NEW packaging today at 3 diffeent Targets here in Central Florida. 🙂
BTW, I DID NOT buy them all! 🙂
Congrats on your find!!! 😀
Ben (who does not collect Cars anymore) has a real find. Good luck to everyone.
I question it’s authenticity. There should be more on the pegs to confirm that they have truly ARRIVED. This may be a hoax. I personally would expect more proof than 1 car on a peg in a picture to call this contest over.
(MET: If BMW & her grandson says he found one is good enough for me. If we were giving away a million dollars … well, we might’ve set up a more stringent contest anyway 🙂 … ).
I agree. When this contest was announced, something like this would have never been dreamed of. I wish it was for pictorial proof of the first full case / case remnants.
I agree
Not a hoax folks. Real Deal.
BTW, check ebay they are hitting now.
I checked eBay and found three Final Lap castings/packagings from the same seller in Chino Hills, CA. The seller has sold a rather large number of Pixar/Disney Cars. Most of the sales offerings are for loose Cars. With over 27,000 sales, it is interesting that there are so many ‘loose’ Cars? Seriously, I wonder why only three from this type of seller. I also wonder if the three are from either a genuine wholesale or retail distributor/seller. I’m still not convinced any of these sighting are the real McCoy. Flown in from the manufacturing site?
Steve, the three on ebay listed are not the only ones found so far. There is another collector who found Final Lap cars on Thursday the 10th.
He was in the LA area. I just wonder if these are being held back in the Target storerooms, and a few got put out by mistake? Don’t know.
There are actually 4 on eBay — the same seller ran out of characters and put “Final” with Brand New Mater, as opposed to “Final Lap”.
Oh yeah, add Brand New Mater to the list, so either Mater is wrong or there are 18 releases.
Trust me, this is no hoax.
I go to this Target every two days and they had nothing on Wednesday, but on Friday, this one car was sitting there.
Does this mean that they got a whole case and this was all that was left? Probably, but I’m just posting what I found with pics.
I’m no liar nor cheater and this is not a hoax. I have better things to do in life than make stuff like this up. I could care less about this, just doing a favor for my grandmother.
These are the facts; take them or leave them!
(MET: Just to note, I had NO doubt of its authenticity since it was BMW & her grandson as I posted it last night as soon as I got the email … before any photos and CLOSED the contest based on information I deemed to be accurate and trustworthy … So, thanks Ben …).
I stand corrected. 😳
I do not thin anybody is ascribing hoax to this sighting. I think there is insufficient evidence this item came through a normal distribution channel. I think Target/Mattel would have shipped numerous, if not thousands, of cases to the retailer.
Love your name… 😛
Thanks for sending this pic..
Plus that whole arrow thang, Dudes!!!
Come on! That is the real deal!
ugh!! my targets are ANNOYING lol.. im going there anyway and ill make them check the back room! lol
Great find!!!!! I like the new background on them…. very cool! Martin~ if you are still reading this site, WE MISS YOU!!!!! We all say a chant to the Cars gods every night in hopes of your return to the Cars line….
so who won the contest?
oops sorry guess I shouldve read the older posts first!
I mean I should have read the older posts FIRST
