The UK joins the Buy Some (5) CARS, Get A CAR Free promo deal.
WARNING: It says “September” but it actually starts on September 5th! So, don’t start buying anything yet if you want it to count towards your five. It is different this time as you have to send in the receipts … gee, I wonder why they thought calling in a number taped to the front of a card would lead to abuses like last time ;-/
And the mystery CAR … is the Gask-its from the France promo? It runs about the same time as the Italian promo with their “mystery CAR” – Gaskits also? Or is it Tach-o-Mint, the (presumed) US promo?
But it seems safe to guess it’s Gask-its or Tach o Mint.
So, now, between September & October, it looks like there will be THREE promo offers running in the UK (TRU only), Italy (any store) and the US (TRU only).
Two additional notes – the France Gask-Its has another week or so left to run but of course, only ONE per household … it does not seem that restricted for any other country promo in terms of number per household. In fact, the UK one does not even list a restriction per household.
BTW, here are the terms of the UK offer … does anyone want to point out that #1 and #15 are completely contradictory (Monty Python fans will enjoy this 🙂 No, they won’t … ).
The promotion is restricted to those under 16 unless you are under 16, then you are restricted to this offer. Got that? So, I guess if they don’t fulfill your offer, the are legally safe in citing either clause #1 or clause #15.
And the English make fun of Americans for not knowing English.
But on the other hand, it probably has been 115 years since a written warning here in the U.S. has used the following phrase – ‘whilst.’ (#14).

THEY’RE HEREEEEEEEEE!!
UK promo cars started arriving today -its Sidewall Shine and in a nice case like the US promo!
For those on the ‘list’ i will email you all later – once the excitement has worn off and i’ve finished my bacon butty ;- )
Ps – This is probably not great news for you US guys and gals! as you’ve already had this promo – apologies on behalf of the UK! if you were hoping for Tach-o-mint or Gask-its
I went to TRU for the first day of the promo and it was a real let down. They did not have any of the flyers or the collector poster, and their stock was dreadful. I had planned to be sneaky and buy up some lenticulars and return the ones I bought the week before from the shop across the road, but that backfired as TRU had next to nothing. There are still many months to go though, and they don’t even start sending out the promo Car until october, so there is still hope!

Well same story at TRU Hanley – nothing about the promotion and a choice of a few differenet McQueens just about summed it up! This is a good marketing exercise though to get rid of all the stock that nobody now wants! they even had a McQ in the very first packaging that hit the UK!
TRU don’t seem to know anything about the Promo, but at least Mattel Customer Services know about it. The terms and conditions have been updated on the carstoys.co.uk website now. Managed to find some Non McQueen cars today. I was going to York TRU as well, but at least now know I can give it a skip. 😉

been to 2 toys r us in uk this morning 5th september.
1st was york they had no clue about any promo and no new cars,i was forced to-buy 5 more mcqueens just to get the receipt so i can mail it away for the car.
uk tru price for a single car is £3.49
then on to hull tru they also had no clue about any promo no new cars/no raceorama cars just 11 ramones woc!!!(you think you have it bad)
popped into a local wilkinson’s store to find a new case on the shelf and picked up a chase boost.first i have seen.
so not a lot for a 160 mile round trip.did i mention i got a £50 parcking ticket too.

Have not checked the TRU prices lately but probably near the £3.50-4.00 each mark so the cost would be the five cars and shipping of your choice plus Paypal fees.

Taking a good look at the car under the cover, for some reason to me it dosen’t seem the shape of Gaskits. It looks like Tach-o-Mint to me. It looks more squarish than rounded off like Gaskits. I could be wrong but I have Gask-it’s and it just the outline dosen’t look like him. The winsheild looks too far back. I’m guessing that the reason they limited the French promotion is to give the rest of the Gaskits for the originally planned but maybe delayed US Gaskits promotion and the Tach-O-mints will be all over Europe. Just a guess

but if its anything like the last promo, itll be a disaster, i bought the cars, entered the codes and didnt get anything! did it twice, said i will get an email from thm and didnt,
anyway, went to birmingham (uk) and they didnt have anything amazing thier, got a disney store and an entertainer store,
was hoping for the disney exclusive frank, but none,

Hmmm… I wonder if the exclusive car is exactly what you see in the picture. A covered car! Remember the old Cars poster where Lightning is peaking out from under a car cover? …Actually, that would be a pretty cool collectible.
I hate all these promotion only cars, its impossible to get if you live in the us, without spending a small fortune.
Try living in Canada and collecting these promo cars.
The Terms and Conditions make perfect sense to me. The promotion is only open to you if you are under 16, however you can only apply for it if you are over 16. So if you are interested in the promo and you are under 16 then you’re in luck, but you have to find someone over 16 to send in the application for you. Don’t try and fill in the application yourself because they know the difference between big people’s writing.
If you are over 16 and interested in the promo then you have to find someone under 16 who will pretend they are interested so you can pretend to send in the application on their behalf. Make sure Mattel doesn’t find out though that its you who are really interested. Maybe fill out any relevant paperwork with a touch of indifference. Simple.
So that’s all fine if you are under 16 or over 16 but the question remains, what if you are actually 16?
(MET: That one instant you are exactly 16 is the one period in time in which you are neither here or there and unable to comply …).

I’ve been in touch with all 3 of my great UK trading partners… Here’s hoping the US and UK promos are different Cars… Tach O Mint for Gask-Its does have a nice ring to it.
And my stepfather does have relatives in Italy…

I once sent a letter to Mattel asking for a promo for us. I got the obligatory reply that my query wass being passed on to the relevant department (sound of paper being shred…bzzzzz).

so the only way they do some sort of “kind of promo” is to do a Draw.. but only 1 or few winners and as always NO PURCHASE necessary! …

So unless the United States is part of the Channel Islands, this promo is closed to US residents, as far as I understand it. 🙂

We need an international date standard. I was thinking 1.10.2009 was January 10, 2010 before I realized it was really 2009. And October.
Personally, I’m an SQL junkie, so I prefer 2009-10-01 as October 1. That way, you can “alphabetize” dates easier.

Who decided a smaller scale would measure weather better. 105 degree is way hotter than 102 degrees instead of the difference between 38 degrees and 38.6 degrees … ).
Is that the thing with millimeters and kilometers, the same thing that our teachers(here in the US) told us we needed to learn because soon the entire world would be using it?

Good to see the promos are complementary. I can buys the cars at TRU in the UK, send my receipts to Mattel UK and then forward the Cardbacks to our Italian friends who can send them in with their barcodes for their Promo! 8)

I was there on Tuesday night (figured I had to see Wrigley if I was going to be in Chicago!)… That was just a disgusting showing for the Cubs unfortunately. I did revel in the fact that I finally saw a grand slam “live”, too bad it was the Washington Nationals that did it. At least the kid on the street that picked up one of the National homeruns actually threw the ball back into the park! That was classic! Aside from my real home park (Camden Yards), Wrigley is now second on my list. Cubs fans are awesome!
