Very Cool Drawings Of Hot Rod Cars Via A Nintendo DS
While Cars related, it is a bit of a stretch but one worth taking a look at I think.
One of the designers that works at the WETA workship in New Zealand has developed a little side project where he has created 99 hot rods (aka sleds) via some tweaked software on a Nintendo DS! The tweaked software is called Colors.
The software was just recently made available on the iphone and itouch too! You may have seen the news item this week about the artist that created a cover illustration for an issue of The New Yorker. The software used for that though was Brushes.
The artist, Christian Pearce, has worked on King Kong, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, I, Robot, Halo, and the very cool upcoming District 9 film among many others. The guy has skillz. You can check out his blog here.
Now, here is a brief view of how he actually created these mad drawings:
If you would like to see more Hot Rods by Mr. Pearce, you can check out their website here but be warned that the site also includes 99 naked women slipping on banana peels. No joke. Kinda harmless really but you’ve been warned.
Ladies & Gentlecars,
Dave “The Big” Deal is the Man. I took up drawing from another legend Ed “Big Daddy” Roth. Although I came to find out later that the drawings that I was coping ala Rat Fink & Sidewalk Sufer, were actually done by another guy.
What’s new? Marketing……………
Thats wht hes an artist, and we’re not..
reminds me of the old Mad type magazine, I think it was called Carz?!?!
The girls slipping on banana peels was frankly kind of weird!
How many times did you watch it Shanon
Car Toons was the magazine….. Some really awesome stuff before it stopped. A LOT of drawings by George Trosley.
I think you’re talking about CARtoons magazine, which is exactly what it reminded me of. In fact, one of the original illustrators of CARtoons magazine contributed to Pixar’s Cars movie. His name was Dave Deal, and IMHO he was a genius. You can check out his contribution to Cars in “The Art of Cars” or see some of his other work here: http://www.bigdealart.com/
In fact, if you scroll down to the bottom of this page, you can see Dave’s version of Sally, Mater, Lizzie, Luigi, Filmore, and Sarge:

I peaked.
Wasn’t that one of those “deleted scenes” from Cars?
