Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Overspray McQueen – The Red You Don’t Want
While we actually covered this way, way, way back in November 2008, since they are still popping up and confusing people, it’s time to get the red out.
For some reason no one noticed that Radiator Springs & Cruisin’ McQueen after getting their Ransburg sprayΒ – instead moving on the assembly line to a far, far better place – for some oddball reason after getting their water decals, they returned to the spraying area – getting all misty and red.
Since Cruisin’ and Radiator returned in the last couple boxes, it has been more noticeable as there are more on the shelves. Is it an error variant, technically yes – as they seem to be available all over but does it mean anyone is really collecting them? In addition to just poor quality control – it’s not like there is a shortage of them as you can pretty much go into any store and buy some red-eyed, re-sprayed McQueen.
Here is he compared to a regular Cruisin’ …
I’m not sure if these are from the same batch made in late 2008 or the factory is still not caring … Michele in CT sends us the the latest one on the shelf – just as red …
So, error variant yes but that does not mean you need to add it to your collection – not a significant variant … though of course, you are free to collect it. π
“Cruisin'” has an “i” in the middle, MET. π
(MET: Youse here for CARS for the spellink of things? π π okay, truth be know, depending on topic – I will spell check some and others, me’h … so Cranberry Spit-Take McQueen, not so much π ).
eh only one, I figured that was good enough
i have twelve… You?!?!
hahahahahah I bought one of him by accident and I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me at first, its almost like someone through him in the wash with a bunch of white socks.
It shall be written that we will know him as:
“Pinky Mcqueen”
The two that I have certainly look like bleed-through, not overspray.
This is NOT a variant! This is plain lousy workmanship. It’s not work buying, period! Would you pay for a lousy paint job for your Ford, Honda, Toyota, etc- No you wouldn’t. It’s not an error either! Mattel is very adept at creating variations. Just check their Hot Wheels line- change the color of a casting. Create wheel variations. Of course, since the Hot Wheel cars are not replicating a cartoon movie character, Mattel can do whatever Mattel wants. Save your $$$.
look at him!,his face is getting red.

I’m not so sure it is an overspray vs. a poor quality of decal that is showing the ransburg red through the white decal making it look pink. Thoughts?
Overspray? I haven’t looked close but I thought the red was just bleeding through.
I don’t think the red paint dried enough before they rolled the decal / paint on.
“Carrie” McQueen?
Holy crud!
Scott Baio gave McQueen pinkeye!
Pinky Tuscadero?
Oooh… maybe he’ll jump a shark?!
I search one of cruisin pink mcqueen Thanks to contact me π
Huh?
I’ve been referring to mine as “Swine Flu McQueen”.
I think of him as embarrassed MQ, maybe he backfired at an inappropriate time….
