Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Walmart – More iPods, Wii’s – Less CARS?
Looks like Walmart is changing up the mix of their stores to go after former Circuit City customers …
As the WSJ reports …
“Wal-Mart also is leveraging a more subtle advantage it boasts over standalone electronics chains: a mom-heavy clientele. Retailers say women often have final say over household purchases of new video games and televisions.”
People have reported seeing some of the CARS line being clearanced as they downsize the toy section …specifically clearance pricing on Haulers, the Collector’s Guide & Trev the carrying case.
It’s always hard to tell if it’s a temporary peg-space shift that can change back with the next plan-o-gram (reset) or what … but certainly on a temp basis, it means less toys in those stores.
In NorCal, the Walmart’s look pretty much the same but I don’t remember the water & pool toys being so large last year or previously starting to creep towards and consume the toy section …

Our WM is doing a complete store re-model. The toy dept. is moving to the back next to electronics and being downsized by 50%. They did remove the red item delete sticker from the Haulers 🙂 , but Trev is leaving the station for the last time. At least as a huge chunk of plastic. Diecast Trev where are you?
PirateSon took Trev filled with minis to church yesterday and on the way got VERY upset with Mattel that Diecast Trev is not released yet! It was quite funny trying to explain that the ones he saw were customs on eBay, and he simply glared at me and said, “How hard can it be to make them and put them in stores???” I could not argue with that kind of sense!
(MET: Of course, kids also think money is free, just go to that thinger in the wall 🙂 … or that Tv shows weren’t freely available anytime you want to watch it 🙂 Of course, the only thing I can build with wood is a stack of wood with a nail in it 🙂 ).
I saw the most recent “planogram” lying near the Cars section at Walmart last week and it didn’t appear to be any different as far as the number of pegs dedicated to Cars singles, etc. It just made me wonder if anyone informed Walmart that the singles are supposed to become a Target exclusive…..
(MET: WM will be carrying lenticulars).
Bad news in the midst of some new great upcoming releases. Well, hopefully I wont have to resort to WalMart, TRU, and Target for hunting CARS as a local downtown shop who is an authorized Mattel distribuitor might be carrying them soon.
