Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Target Opening + Batmobile

From Southern Cal, look – it’s sunny!

Look, it’s naked Ramone … yea, back in the days when cars were recognizable … the cool cat Chevy …

Lenin V. is on his way to check out the new Target opening … in thsi economy, we probably won’t have that many store openings but remember to do as Lenin V. is doing, go early – they always do a “soft” launch to test out everything … here’s what a store just opening has to offer on the shelves …

shelf

Interesting they have Team Haulers packed away somewhere …

Hey, different CARS to buy …

My Target? Need some Hot Wheels Easter CARS?

And completely off topic, NascarBronco sends us pics of his Batmobiles … I guess that’s the new Batmobile Boat?

batmobile

No shocker, there are some smokes …

Nice pictures! After the grand opening that Target will look like the rest of them- nothing! No haulers! No team haulers! No new castings! No Batmobiles. I’m sure the evil eBayers have cleaned out the place already!

      So what’s wrong with evilBayers?

The problem I have with eBayers is the fact that many of them use a retailer to obtain their product rather than buying wholesale. I fully understand that eBayers cannot obtain product at the wholesale price that the big box stores do. I’ve seen this with every collectible since the early 1980’s. It first started with sports cards in the early 1980’s. Sports cards were purchased at retail and marked up two or three times retail. This included Kenner Starting Lineup which came out in 1988. The next major toy property to fall prey was Star Wars action figures starting in 1995. Remember the $80 Princess Leia’s? You would be hard pressed to find one at retail because the door busters at TRU, WM and TGT stampeded through the aisles and swept up everything of value. It was the same with Hot Wheels and Johnny Lightning die cast cars. In my neck of the woods there were monthly sports card shows at the malls and convention centers, as well as, Hot Wheel/Die Cast shows. If the reseller was unable to sell their product, the reseller returned it to the retailer for full refund. I saw it many times. I personally know TRU managers who got in trouble with upper management (New Jersey Corporate) because they tried to limit sales to customers to ensure moms and dads and kids could get a chance at the product. Of course, the TRU employees making minimum wage were guilty of buying at retail and reselling to stores. Many kids at the local TRU were fired for such actions. One of the TRU managers would hold a drawing for the rights to buy Hot Wheels Treasure Hunts to ensure all of his customers had a chance.

EBay resellers do nothing but drive up prices and create the illusion of scarcity. My local antique mall has a new die cast reseller dealing with Hot Wheels and Disney/Pixar Cars. I’ve never seen such an abundance of Hot Wheel Treasure Hunts in one kiosk. Of course he charges 8X-12X the retail price. As to Cars, he charges $6.00 for new basic Cars and $8.00 for Impounds. When the castings age, he reduces the priced down to customary retail to recoup his outlay.

This illusion of scarcity causes hoarding. I’ve read many postings at this site where persons have purchased relatively large quantities of “scarce” Cars, which of course deprives others of a chance to buy the toys.

Buying at retail and jacking the price up on new toys adds nothing to the joy of buying toys for play or collecting. I have no issues with a retailer, who purchases at a higher wholesale price, pays for brick and mortar rent, wages, etc, who must charge a higher price to cover those expenses. I also have no issues with persons who buy for others and pass on the product. I am guilty of buying haulers and impounds and passing them on at cost or less.

Hopefully, that fully explains my position on eBay scalpers and related resellers.

CASE F has been restocked here again, saw 4 Nitroade pittys, more chucks, and another Wingo with boot. The Eggs are again restocked, I also finally got a set in great shape, they just throw them into the bins in the Easter section. Saw three Sparemints today but only got one.
Just waiting on case G. its good to be caught up again.

    • BMW says:

Forgot, so mesmerized by the neat pegs, full of recent cars.
We have an older inner city Target here which looks like this. I almost always score there. Its kept neat and clean, and usually well stocked.

  • Ryan says:

Not that this has anything to do with this post, but I see photos on ebay of the contents of case G now, including the new Chuki card! Maybe someone has already brought this up…

  • 5oclockshadow says:

Looks pretty much like my Target except no Haulers have been seen round these parts for a while. Plenty of case E, and now Case C is making a comeback. None of the Impound Snot Rods had confetti though =/ Third shipment of Easter Eggs came in and FINALLY found a set that was worth keeping(no beat up cards). I am not expecting to see anymore of these though, as the red McQueen eggs are starting to spill out of their little cubby hole. Hopefully can get some of these cheap after Easter.

Found a different set of Easter eggs at the Army Air Force Exchange. They were clear red with 1:64 scale Cruisin McQueen & Mater keychains inside. They were $3.15. Pretty cool looking. Has anyone else seen these before?

  • Ryan says:

Grab that Easy Idle Pitty for me, please!

  • chuki_mama says:

Quick, BATMAN, grab ALL the Impound DJ…. 😈

  • Chase says:

Nice car, but that one pictured is a 1960 Impala and Ramone is a 1959 Impala. I would not mind seeing a younger brother of his show up, but I doubt that will ever happen! It is hard enough just getting the regular cars to show up at our local retailer. (Walmart)

  • John in Missouri says:

My Target still hasn’t Case F, but did put out a Case E the other day.
