Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: The New Tomica Box Set
The only other ongoing diecast CARS series is from Japan, from Tomica.
Unlike the Mattel line which other than the love of re-re-releasing McQueen’s in each box has given us over 200 CARS – Tomica is pretty much sticking to a few dozen CARS and has been re-issuing them with different eye positions. They do have a new set though – a new box set of 12 CARS with new non-canon motifs that are interesting …
And they come with a cute Lightyear wheel case …
I think it’s a typical Japanese “blind” item in that each display box does not necessarily contain all 12 CARS.
This is the store display box – each CAR retails for @$9.50 USD after Yen conversion.
While I have not seen one of these in person, I’m presuming it’s the same molds and materials of their regular diecast line and they are HEAVY METAL … they do not kid around. They are solid – no skimping on metal though as noted in the previous post – good sculpting and great quality but not as GREAT of sculpts of the Mattel line …

Hey Met 9 where does that whitewalls MQ come from with the Flames pin-stripping on the WOC website that’s the picture you get on the collectibles is that same picture. (I sent you an e-mail a couple days ago with that screen shot) Just curious? It will be a cool die-cast to have.
In case anyone missed it or wanted to watch it again, Rescue Squad Mater will be on today @ 4:00 on Disney XD and Mater the Greater will be on @ 8:00 on the 22nd on the same channel.
I miss Japan. I wish I could go back this year. I would’ve hooked anybody up with these. But yeah, toys over there are typically much more expensive than here. Seemed like single cards and Tomica boxes were $6. And Cars weren’t too hard to come by, but Pokemon and Transformers still reign supreme.
I like the Mater with backward flames the best, even though his eyes are upside down. Kudos to whoever thought of doing that. King and Sally look pretty cool too. I especially like the wheel packaging.
I see the word “canon” used alot in these posts. Can someone/met explain what that means for those of us that don’t know?
(MET: Explained in this post with link to Wikipedia).
Standard – in this case, staying true to the concept of the original Cars movie
Thanks
That flame job can be seen on a Mack Hauler/carrier that had 12 cars inside from a Disney store release as well as some Easter buckets at walmart. The sets are very hard to come by and will generally run $150 plus shipping. If you are still interested look for a HK seller : babytoysrus. She may still be able to get a few sets from her supplier.I have used her for 90% of my Tomica fits and each transaction was smooth as butter! And yes the size is the exact same as the running CARS series from Tomica.
Any info on how to purchase these? I have been trying to find them.
Terri
are these still about the same size as the last series?
OUCH! That is a HIGH price tag!
Yeah – CAD $12.20 – I don’t want it that bad. Nice designs though.
Those pinstripes on Doc, Sheriff, and Mcqueen are pretty pimpin’! Are they going to have their own way to show off their Von Dutch too??
I know Mater is pretty apt at driving backwards but those flames just look plain wrong to me!
Mr T, I don’t understand what is happening in the scene in which Ramone shows Minny the van his undercarriage and says, “Von Dutch” style?
I understand Von Dutch is pinstriping, but what is this scene referring to? Did Von Dutch pinstripe his balls?
The Ramone’s are cool looking!
Did anyone else notice that they spelled out DINOCO under Lightning in blue, but NOT under The King or Chick?
Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto !
Sweet, Ricky! First!
I’d like the King.
