“…I’ve always wanted to have the Darth Mater ever since you posted the pics from the SDCC 2008. Anyway, I know its one of a kind and there was a contest last weekend here which I entered. I made a Darth Mater myself (together with some help from friends) which I would like to share with you. This is the Tomica casting (much smaller than the Mattel brother at 1:64 scale). I won the contest. (hurrah!!!).”
The Tomica one (1/64) is a bit smaller than the Mattel 1:55 …
But, yea, Rafayel T. took the Tomica car on the right and turned it into 1/64 Darth Mater … 1/64th the evil but amazingly great.
Looks nice here but let’s look closer …
You too can re-create the Dream Halloween Darth Mater … in small scale … how are your metal, plastic, painting, sculpting, wiring and leather crafting skills?
I’ll bring a black Sharpie and a comfy chair to nap.
I’d hate to be the other competitors at this customizing contest … I’d be like, “Dude, I glued a Mariners cap to my McQ – I’m a genius! … WTH? Is that Darth Mater in small scale – oh Jinxy!”

Please don’t get me wrong as you’ve done an awesome job on your 1:55 DarthMater. I wouldn’t even try to hand built this as you have done.
Again, please remember, it took approx. 10 departments here at Mattel 7 months of stone cold professionals in their field to actually bring DarthMater to life as you saw him.
My Light Saber is off to you my friend and in no way did I try to play down your effort. If you mistook my comment it that way you have my sincere apology.

If I remember correctly I think Lasseter mentioned that line we first discussed Darth Mater up @ Pixar over almost two years ago now? Man how times flies when you’re having fun………Although supervising approx. 10 different Depts. here was no fun, but it went to a good cause.
Haven’t thought about what to do for this years Dream Halloween auction item. Terrible economic times right now, that’s why I think he went so low last year. Tough times right now.
Nice job on your custom, funny thing is since DarthMater was all built digitally here the files exist. All I would have to do is write a work order, have someone push a button, and I could have a fully detailed resin output of a 1:55th Darth by tomorrow morning. He’d be in pieces, just have to glue and paint right quick.
May do that, just for sport, sport only. 🙂
