Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Dustin Mellows, Shelled …

Kids, avert your eyes!

(or kids shouldn’t know that CARS can be taken apart so easily …).

John in Missouri sends us pics of his scalpel to Dustin …

“A couple of years ago, we attempted to make our own custom Dirt Track Doc Hudson by putting the wheels from Fabulous Hudson Hornet onto Doc Hudson.  But as soon as we started, we noticed that instead of being screwed on, the body of the car was “stamped” to the base, similar to this Bob Cutlass …”

(If you want to crack open your CARS – you just need a drill and you can drill out the two soldered points … in fact, I believe Mattel would like you to drill open all your CARS 🙂 ).

So fast forward to a couple weeks ago when we opened Dustin Mellows.  We noticed that the cab was “stamped” onto the base the same way:

However, we noticed that the trailer was screwed on with 4 screws:

So we took out our smallest Phillips-head screwdriver, and voila!

Here is the inside of the trailer (now we know why his rear door doesn’t slide open!):

It’s a good thing John doesn’t work where he can randomly decide to take parts of your car to decide how it works … well, as long as you don’t own a Ford. 🙂 just kidding, great photos, John … maybe someday we’ll get a plused up Dustin Mellows with working rear door and crates of “TS.”

Thanks, John … what will he take apart next? 🙂
