All the world’s a racetrack as racing superstar Lightning McQueen zooms back into action, with his best friend Mater in tow, to take on the globe’s fastest and finest in this thrilling high-octane new installment of the “Cars” saga. Mater and McQueen will need their passports as they find themselves in a new world of intrigue, thrills and fast-paced comedic escapades around the globe. “Cars 2” is being directed by Brad Lewis, producer of the Oscar®-winning film “Ratatouille.”

This storyline makes perfect sense as the only reason some considered the CARS film a little underwhelming at the box office was it didn’t do “Finding Nemo” like numbers overseas – mainly because it was very U.S.-centric but that won’t be a problem here with this storyline.

The other presumed corporate synergy syncing with 2011 originally was also that was the announced debut of CARLAND at Anaheim’s California Adventures but recently, there were rumors that construction was slow and delayed so they will still sync it with the CARS 2 release, only now in 2012.

Of course, it will be interesting to see if Mattel can sustain the first EVER runaway licensed diecast line from original to sequel … 6 years is a LONG time in diecast land … even for most adults, that’s a lot of time – not to mention kids …

AND maybe we’ll have hover cars and CARS by then …

Originally released in 1999, “Toy Story 2” went on to become one of the most popular animated features of all time. When an obsessive toy collector named Al McWhiggin (owner of Al’s Toy Barn) kidnaps Woody, and Woody learns that he’s a highly valued collectable from a 1950s TV show called “Woody’s Roundup,” the stage is set for a daring rescue attempt by the gang from Andy’s room. The film introduced such other memorable characters from “Woody’s Roundup” as Jessie the cowgirl, Bullseye the horse, and the Prospector.
