Mattel Disney Pixar CARS Diecast: Henri Motisse Will Make an Impression
Thanks for the great pics, “John H!”
Henri Motisse is another fun Citroen 2CV.
He comes with an attached paint brush and an eassel.
The full scene.
With Louis LaRue.
Of course, the “stick/cane” of Louis LaRue is odd. It seemed simplier just not to attach that.
The 2CV gang – John makes the row.
Louis & Henri are the same mold. John is not.
Thanks for the great pics, “John H!”
How can they be the same molds? the mouth is different, grilles are different, back bumpers are different, Louis has the flower on the hood. I thought both were unibodies, so each would have to have a different mold.
(MET: I’m only guessing as I’m not holding both in my hands but it just seems they re-painted a different part of the mouth to make it look different and the grill decal goes over the same front design? I’m only guessing at this point …).
Multi-part slide dies allow one to replace small parts of the mold like the piece that forms the mouth/grill, and yet keep the same body for the rest of the casting. Same goes for the hole in the hood for the flower — and the bumper is on the plastic floor molding, so yet another different die with different multi-piece slides. “John” can be from the same basic die as well, but he has a different top slide for this plain non-beret roofline. Keep in mind that to produce thousands of these toys, they likely have ten to a dozen molds for each casting needed.
Very interesting! Thank you for explaining this part of the manufacturing process. I always wondered.
If you run a search through Google Images for “multi-slide dies” you’ll find some images that give a better understanding of the process.
This will be a must have for my collection! Very cool accessory.
