Mattel Disney Pixar CARS Toons Diecast: Variant Tokyo Mater Walmart Box Set
“John H.” sends along great pics of the Walmart Tokyo Mater Box Set which contains two variants, one of which is actually a brand new release.
It was easy to lose track of all the variants and versions of Tokyo Mater especially since this version was shown off many times but after all was said and done, it was never actually released …
There are now three official releases of Tokyo Mater. There was a SDCC exclusive (clean) with Flames though just called Tokyo Mater (more photos) so this is both a new release & technically a variant release of that one. There was also Tokyo Mater with Oil Stains.
It is essentially the same as the oil stain one (minus the oil stains, of course). The cab is metal with a plastic face and plastic tow package and spoiler wing in the back. They weigh virtually the same.
They obviously have different expressions and eye positions. Bottom line, it is a new release.
Tokyo Mater (SDCC) – Pearl paint, box has a light up element, not the vehicle.
Manji is a more normal variant – they changed out his eye color.
Otherwise, identical. Same with the included Pitty – not a variant.
Thanks for the great pics, “John H.” who also rounds up his Tokyo Mater diecast collection. The other Mater is Drift Party Mater without the big spoiler wing.
Tokyo Mater Box set is not available online at Walmart, in store only.
what Mater variant is the brown one at column 3, middle row?
The extra Mater was in the Tokyo Mater Track Set.
The extra McQueen was in the Ninja Knockout playset.
Still waiting for Moderfied Mater.
What are the 4 Dragon LMQs? I know there’s the collector’s guide version, Dragon McQueen with and without oil stains. What’s the fourth one?
Only 3 Mattel versions that I’m aware of. Maybe the 4th one in the picture is Tomica? Honestly do not know.
There’s was a plastic version that came in a track set a few years ago
That extra McQueen was in the Ninja Knockout playset.
The extra Mater was in the Tokyo Mater Track Set.
I see another mater in the last picture, looks like the oil stain mater
minus oil stains? They have the same expressions..first mater from the right
Could that be the (regular) Tokyo Mater all plastic version from the playsets?
I’m pretty sure the playset just came with a plastic Dragon McQueen?
Maybe that’s a backdoor China Oil Stain Mater before final paint (oil stains were added)? Either way very cool collection, it’s a great Toon to watch even still
There were quite a few Tokyo Mater playsets; I’m positive that the House Of Donuts set came with a plastic Tokyo Mater with a happy expression. It actually was fairly similar in detail and quality to that of the SDCC release, which was so lightweight for a diecast.
That extra Mater was in the Tokyo Mater Track Set.
The extra McQueen was in the Ninja Knockout playset.
ahh so that’s it! very cool 3 pack, you gotta wonder why
they didn’t throw Kabuto or Dragon McQueen or Ito San in there
though, it’s odd they throw Manji in there who was just a face
in the crowd with no lines.
Was Chuki in “Tokyo Mater”?
No I was not! 😉
Actually up on the building behind Mater found at 1:19.
