Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS 2: You Was There When You Got Relegated to Number Two …
1 and done.
‘Cause I got Sally as my agent …
Shoot, you didn’t see this coming when they named them MATER Tall Tales …
So, what should we call this series?
CARS 2: Porto Corsa*
CARS 2: Port Corsa
CARS 2: Italy Coast’
CARS 2: Italian Coast
CARS 2: Italian Riveria
* The race takes place in Porto Cosa, Italy – there is no city or area called Porto Cosa – it’s made up. Porto obviously means Port – Cosa just means stuff? Right? So, that doesn’t make much sense to do a direct translation …
UPDATE: Turns out it’s Porto CORSA. I found the official press release – it does make more sense as CORSA means race-racing so “Port Race,” makes much more sense.
So, what should we call this series?
There will be three racing taking place in 3 different countries during the movie. Italy, Japan and England. I think a short and simple identification will be appropriate such as “Italian Race Card”, “Japenese Race Card” and “British Race Card”. Why make it complicated when it is so easy to make confusing? Ask Mattel they are champion doing it.
how about the “european series/circuit”, port italia. Or “port race series”, italia card. which could tranform into a new series “the asian circiut”, china card ECT…
MET watcha think???
Sea-scape
Am I missing something…around this time I figured we would be talking about KMart Day 6??? Did I miss something? Where’s the resident KMart experts when we need them…
(MET: Again, with the not reading of every post everyday and 5 times a day at t5 … 😛 Let’s just say there’s a real big day happening just about 25 hours before the Kmart Day event so it’s been backburnered a bit … yea, no one even cares that the case content is *************************** ***************************, ******** ******************************, *, *** ***************************************).
Aaaahh… Porto Corsa! Now i can sleep….
Why not a exact opposite of Desert for naming, since on the one side of the card there is a body of water (the Mediterranean?)
Pretty sure its supposed to be Porto Corsa, not Cosa.
(MET: It’s Cosa – I think there is a Porto Corsa in Portugal so even though it’s not very logical translated, they wanted to avoid any real cities).

Cars 2 poster. turns out it is Porto Corsa
(MET: Yea, I just double checked the press release – turned out it was mis-spelled in the newspaper article … so it makes a little more sense).
In this context Corsa in Italian means race, as in auto racing.
This is an outrage! Why is Mater #1! Why isn’t Mcqueen #1…. 😀 JK guys…. LOL I’m starting to cave into Cars 2 collecting… hmn… I hope Mattel does better job this time around… [Looks at incomplete FL series, hauler series, pit crews series, etc] 🙁
Sorry, new to posting here. But, on the subject of what to Call the cardbacks maybe we’re just missing the obvious. I mean to say that my first thought when I saw the scenery in the background was…Coast cards ?
Hey, I said that this morning! 😉

The problem I see with naming the series with any type of ethnic tone is that people will get confused and presume these are international productions and not US.
Personally though, I don’t really care. As long as the eyes don’t move, I’m in! 😀
Cardback scenery also resembles Monte CAR-lo
The Monaco/Monte Carlo circuit hugs a port for a portion, not a twisty open coast. Looks more like Amalfi.
Cars 2 cars look like they are going to be awesome however my 12 year old is tired of them so we won’t be getting these ones. Good luck to all you out there in finding them. Now with all the money we will save we decided to go buy the 2011 Chevy Camaro instead. I want a real car. 🙂
Well best of luck with the new car Rebecca. It’s always kinda sad to see collectors move on. My son just turned 7 so we are full steam ahead for Cars 2. He can’t wait for the movie. This is going to be a long three months for him. He wishes he didn’t have to wait.
I have a strong feeling that we will be seeing some Cars 2 cars before May 15th or whatever. May 15th is probably the date for one or two stores to release certain ones but I think another major retailer may have a deal in place to release some new Cars 2 cars before then. I have been hearing things about possibly TRU having an earlier release for some Cars 2 merchandise. Knowing Mattel it makes perfect sense that they made a deal with one of the major corporations to have an exclusive first release of Cars 2 cars rather than every store releasing the cars on the same day.
Thanks Jack. 🙂
The Scenic Speedway card? I’m guessing we’ll probably be saying “Italian Card,” as Jack suggests.
No one called the original Cars cards “Desert Art” until Supercharged came out, so I think the initial Cars 2 cards will come to fruition when the next style is released in 2012 (or whenever). Until that time, there’s no use in calling these “Italian Cards” when we can just call them “Cars 2 characters”.
Does anyone know when the Cars 2 cars are supposed to be released in the stores?
May 15.
15 is a sunday. I am pretty sure the items will be on the shelves monday the 16th. And if I remember well there was a picture of boxes with label showing “NOT BEFORE MAY 16TH” I’m I right?
Which means anyday really with the fools who tend to work in those shops.
CARS 2: Sea View
How about “Coast Card”?
I guess the question is will the Mater diecast become the series 1 equivalent of pegwarming multi-variant McQueen?
Not a chance! Mater will never go out of style.
Guess we’ll never get to finish the Cars 1 collection around here…most stores pegs and shelves are pretty much empty. 🙁
Met:
Cosa in Italian means What?.
Commonly used as a reply if the listener did not understand what was said or was confused about what was said.
As a single word its used like this: Cosa?
“Cosa?” is how Guido replied to Sally when she was trying to compliment him on his painting of the exterior of Casa Della Tires. 🙂
COSA means THING–STUFF..
COSA? : WHAT?
PORTO is also the FIRST PERSON SINGULAR ( I )present of the verb PORTARE : TO BRING…
IO PORTO UNA COSA
i bring a thing
First lesson 🙂
Very well Luca..who better than you to explain it! 😉
BTW, I love the new card design..
Thanks Mariela..
the place on the card seems to be ATRANI ( COSTIERA AMALFITANA)( Just similar)..
Eh Aroldo,che dici?
Eh Aroldo,how about that?
lets name it “cosa nostra”
Or MAFIA card.. 🙂
Luca,
I am Italian also.
Born in Northern Italy.
Really??
Where Are You born?
Gorizia – near Trieste
Ostregheta… You are friulano!!!
Great!!!
My grandfather was born in Louisiana.
(MET: US citizens get a special discount – 🙂 ).
Yes, but he’s dead..
In context:
Cosa sta succedendo a Porto Torres
translates to:
What’s happening in Porto Torres
Italian and English spoken at home.
BMW
What’s funny is that Mater is #1.
I think it may be a prototype, cause the picture on the card has no mqueen logo. and mater just cant replace the main charecter of the original.i think.
Let’s see a picture of the back!
http://miceage.micechat.com/mc/mc031611a.htm
here’s some of the new disney cars stuff coming from Disney parks within the next year or so
Did you catch the transporter pulling Mia, Tia, Luigi, and The King? Very cool! 🙂
heck yeah! that’s disney ground transportation with eyes! lol I love it!
How about Holla-Back cards? (Gwen Stefani is Italian)
These are sharp looking cards. Totally loving the Carbon Fiber look!! Reminds me of the old K1 Cards. It is a very nice touch. As for a name … hmmmm …. more thought will be needed for that one. 🙂
Port-backs.
Why is mater number 1? Guess he stole the show?!?!
I have a feelin’ McQueen will get his own numerical listing.. #1 Race team mcQueen #2 Starting line McQueen……#91 McQueen with beret!
Since we had Desert Back cards, how about International Back?
Or, European Back?
I have to assume not all of them will have the Italian coast? Will they be location specific?
How about the Italian Card backs? Especially since I believe we will be seeing different location card backs as more cars are released.
Then we can call them the Radiator Springs card backs for scenes when they are home, Japanese Card backs, UK card backs etc.
I’m happier than a tornado in a trailer park! Number 1, hasta la Mater!
