Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Pallet Arrives at Kmart + Toy Story + Other Shopping

The pallet that was at Fred Meyer last week seems to have arrived at Kmart also …

Cars pallet

Pretty much what you see is what you get. Nothing spectacularly new but now early September releases that may have been hard to find in your area are a little easier with this pallet. It’s two sides of CARS (lenticular singles on the other side) plus Toy Story.

Thanks for the nice pics, “Nikko.”

Speaking of Toy Story – saw the 3D version today (didn’t have time to stay for Toy Story 2 3D) but um, no surprise – movie still great. Unlike some of the ‘new’ 3D movies, there’s not a lot of stuff flying towards or dropping on you so it’s a much more subtle experience but in an odd way, knowing the story so well lets you wander your eyes around to the backdrops and makes you appreciate the film now even more if that’s possible. Of course, the storytelling and the main characters are as great – but you also appreciate even more the sheer artistry of each scene. You get to see great details and each toy seems even more alive as a 3D character – especially the secondary characters. It’s fun to see Woody and Buzz with visual depth. They always seemed alive but now even more so. So, unless your TV screen is 100 feet wide, definitely go see it in 3D even if you’ve seen it 30 times as I have on DVD. You’ll laugh and you’ll marvel again at great characters, great voice acting, great storyteller and visuals that will blow you away AGAIN. It is amazing how every scene holds up and every joke holds up. There are no TV sitcom like jokes from the 1990’s no longer topical and of course, it’s doubly fun to see the Pizza Planet pickup and the truck almost running over Woody that looks like Gil 🙂 … the 3D is definiely not a gimmick but makes it all brand new and alive … so, yea, bring on CARS, INCREDIBLES and MONSTERS, INC. in 3D …

And you’ll love the green alien dudes even more so … what acting! Support them and their pension fund by buying up their new toys 🙂

alien grab

If you don’t mind a giant seemingly unremoveable sticker and to save a couple bucks – Walgreen’s has it at $9.99.

alien 3
The best deal on these so far seem to be Target – $24.99 …this is part of the special collection with a certificate of authenticity and the official sales pitch by John Lasseter 🙂

And the old standby – Ker Plunk now with aliens …

Ker Plunk

If you have younger kids, the Wii Toy Story Mania video game is fun with lots of mini games … (based on the Disney Park play area).

Wii Alien

No strategy or thinking required 🙂 just plain fun for younger kids …

Wii

It’s nice the aliens are getting a starring role in all these games. They are cool and offer sage and profound wisdom 🙂

MORE SHOPPING

TRU is having a nice sale on Mater Tall Tale singles …

TRU

Considering that I have yet to see any MTT singes at TRU … should make it for an interesting sale … that is a nice discount on the Super Stunt Show set though…

At Ross, the discount store … they seem to have the full line of MegaBlok CARS marked down as these are being discontinued …

tipping-tractor1

The individual CARS seem to be about 50% off from original list but the larger sets seem to be closer to 70% off. Of course being a close out discounter, selection will vary from store to store.

They are being discontinued because Lego signed a Disney deal so CARS will be part of the Duplo line in 2010 …

Meanwhile, you can also pick up these … so what exactly would be a collect them all set … of 36? Or one from each NFL team?

Cheer

Happy shopping!

  • Great site, I came across it on google… I have added you to my list of RSS feeds and favourites now =) I think you would be intrested i

  • BrianD says:

Costco is carrying the GeoTrax Cars set – the mountain portion with LMcQ, Sheriff and Trev. I think it about $55 – can’t remeber the exact price point.

  • Grandma is up from Florida visiting for a few days and I tried to talk my husband into going to the Toys Story movie for something to do. He said “nah, seen it”. But after your review Met, I think I’ll have to either talk him into it or just go with the kids. Sounds like it’s a great movie in 3D.

Guess who my favorite Toy Story characters are? 😉

    (MET: 3D trailers also fun!)

  • Carazy says:

I have an extra Kori, plus all of the MTT singles, including 4 Lug and Nutty’s.

i stopped in at our local TRU (Lombard, IL) this afternoon and they had plenty of Super Stunt Show boxes and plenty of Car Toons – Regular and Oversized. I was able to get Burnt LM, Rescue Squad Police Car, Mater the Greater Pittys, Nurse Pittys, Nurse GTO.

I got an extra Mater The Greater pittys for my kids. They really liked the extra cannonball Mater I got for them, so I figured they would get a kick out of these.

They did not have any Nurse Kori. I found a TRU employee that even brought out two fresh cases to open and still no Nurse Kori as shown in the ad.

    JPK

PS I stopped in last week at a local target and they had all the Final Laps out. I was able to get one of each.

I have decided to just get one of each. Hoarding the new stuff is kind of an a-hole thing to do.

PPS I also had to go to the Apple store in Oak Brook so I stopped in to see the new Neon Tuner pack at the Disney store. Very cool, but I resisted. I also resisted the large scale metal diecast FRANK they had. It was also very cool, but is to much of a stretch out of my collecting realm.

    • PirateDad says:

Disney Store Frank is PRETTY SWEET!! You are a strong person..I envy, no Pity, No envy, No Pity no…….nevermind!!!

    • Aaron & Jeanne Scriven says:

the no nurse kori is because case b doesnt have her.. only case a so far and then case c will too 🙂 and tru is getting case b right now … i havent seen b at kmart or walmart yet .. just a but other people might be 🙂

      • iamspeed says:

I’m not sure about that….there might be a little variation in case contents with case B. The 3 TRU stores that we were at all had fresh cases with the 2 sets of Mater the Greater Pittys AND at least ONE Nurse Kori. I think they’ve been putting 1 Kori in the case, 2 sets of Pittys, and leaving out 1 Trooper or Burnt McQueen. Also, Kori IS shown on the back of the card with the Pittys, so I think what we saw was indicative of the correct case contents, or at least what they’re shipping to our TRU stores.

(MET: Nurse Kori is listed as back in CASE C).

  • PirateDad says:

Met, I LOVED your insight on TS in 3D…it is EXACTLY how I felt…the movies were amzing but even more human, or life like in 3D….pity you had to miss TS2, as it was the one I enjoyed more, and the bloopers at the end were HILARIOUS and wonderful!!

I completely agree witht he Voice Acting line…there were times that I could completely picture Hanks or Taylor instead of Woody or Buzz…it must have been the animators watching the actors ad usingg their facial responses…MAGNIFICENT!!!

The number of things I missed the first 300 times watching them surprised me too..like the Gil truck almost running Woody over, and the Binford Tool Box that lands on Woody when he is in the milk crate… and the adult only humour, like the Barbie party….wonderful and imaginative to infinity and beyond!!

I REALLY enjoyed Todd in his film debut and the Little Green Men came to life on screen in 3D….I am SO glad I went, in fact, I actually hope to go again, although it is a 2 week engagement so I might not make it, but I highly recommend taking your kids, even if you have seen it a zillion times…Butter the popcorn and ENJOY!!!

  • collectormom says:

After being in a Cars drought for months now we had a seriously successful weekend. Found BB Mater, Polly, Skip and the Crew sets at Target, Chick w/Piston Cup at WM, Cannonball Mater at KM, Orderly Pittys and Lug & Nutty at TRU, and Mini RPM/Shiny Wax at a TRU satellite store. The only thing we didn’t find was Frank, Gil and the Boot Camp set. The KM we went to didn’t have the cube but I didn’t really look around for it either. It may be have been in the electronics dept if they had no idea where to put it.

Not trying to sound like I’m bragging about our finds but it’s been close to 5 months since we had any luck. I thought my boys gave up on Cars forever until this weekend

    (MET: WooHoo!)

  • iamspeed says:

I’ve got extra Lug & Nutty sets if anyone needs them.

  • WillsCars says:

I went to Wal-mart, Target, TRU and K-mart today and found nothing! I’m starting to think all delivery trucks that carry new CARS are being hi-jacked before they reach Binghamton, N.Y! 🙂

  • John in Missouri says:

Thanks for posting this! I wasn’t going to stop by Kmart today, but I ran over and found my first Gil in the Wild. Unlike the photo above however, there were no Nitroade Haulers.

And by the way, the 4th side of that cube had Lenticulars for $3.69 each.

  • Roswell says:

see, now thats what i dont get,
ive seen some of the toy story toys at my tesco, they arrived about a week ago, and how long have they been out in the US?

but cars? oh no, i have to wait a good 8 months before i see anything new here!!!

  • Nicole H says:

That is the exact pallet I found yesterday too. And then in the Cars aisle pegs were full of the MTT singles. I also went and saw Toy Story yesterday and it really was amazing. The preview for Toy Story 3 kinda made me a little sad but I am sure that movie will be just as great. Of course, my 4 yr old only wore his 3D glasses for a total of 20 minutes off and on throughout the movie.

    • PirateDad says:

This was the MOST PirateSon wore his…we have seen UP, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Bolt, and he wore his ALMOST the entire movie this time!! afterwards he showed them to me and all I could see were fingerprints, no wonder he did not want to keep them on!!

  • BMW says:

Haven’t seen the MTT singles here at TRU either, Met. So a sale on nothing.
But 200 miles away TRU’s have plenty of MTT singles. Walmart’s been ringing them up at 3.49 by mistake? and HEB grocery stores at 3.98 ea.

    • BMW says:

Well, sure enough this afternoon went to TRU and found the singles, with 5 Lug and Nutty’s on the pegs. So they must have gotten Case B of the MTT singles. Nice to get all the singles at a good price, instead of the 4.99 per single.

  • Micky says:

K Mart is not a store I usually check for Cars but for some reason yesterday I thought I’d stop in. I was surprised to see the cube. Since the Cars section (of the cube) was already picked over, I didn’t realize it was new. Anyway, I did manage to get the last Nitroade Hauler and a Gil.

I’m still looking for Weight Lifting Rocky Gibraltar for my husband. He’s on ebay (mostly from sellers in CA) but I’d rather wait to find him in the wild. Has anyone outside of CA seem him yet?

    • Nicole H says:

Which one are you looking for? I have seen him in a couple of 2 packs and then the big Target exclusive pack with a bunch of others. But I have not seen just a single version of him anywhere and our stores are loaded with the Toy Story toys.

  • 5oclockshadow says:

there is a whole aisle dedicated to the Cowboys cheerleaders at Big Lots here..
